Whitehall Man Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Excavator, Flatbed

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the arrest of 37-year-old Jerrick Jones of Whitehall on two counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd degree. WRGB reports Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy says Jones was found to be in possession of a 2015 Kubota excavator and a 2009 Cross Country flatbed trailer, valued at over $3,000. The items were reportedly stolen from the City of Troy back in October 2022.

New Fishing Store Option In Lake George

A local business with a worldwide footprint is celebrating its grand opening in Lake George. WNYT reports Fish307.com cut the ribbon on its new facility earlier this month. The location is about three miles north of the Lake George Factory Outlets. The newly-renovated building houses retail, office and warehouse space.

School Budget Approved In South Glens Falls

Voters approved a $69,871,797 budget for South Glens Falls Central School District for the 2023-2024 school year, 919-291. WRGB reports the $69.8 million spending plan carries a 7.6% spending decrease over the current year, and the 2.8% tax levy increase is below the limit set by New York’s tax levy cap law. Three candidates were elected the board of education from a five-candidate race: Haley Brashears, Nicholas Healy and William Elder.

White Creek Man Found Sentenced In Landlord Threat Case

A White Creek man found guilty of trying to kill his landlord while being evicted in July was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Matthew Parant was found guilty of three counts of Attempted Murder, one count of Menacing, and one count of Reckless Endangerment. WTEN reports the charges stem from an incident that escalated after Parant got into an argument with the property owner on July 7, 2022 and Parant threatened to kill them.

Warren County Leaders Approve Bus Service Merger

Despite concerns expressed in recent months over surrendering jurisdiction over transportation on local waterways, Warren County leaders approved joining the Capital District Transportation Authority which will involve the agency’s acquisition of local bus service now provided by Greater Glens Falls Transit. Sun Community News reports until last week, county supervisors expressed concerns about whether the CDTA’s acquisition of the county’s bus service would mean compromising private cruise ship operators’ traditional ability to transport passengers on Lake George.

Job Fair In Glens Falls Thursday

Warren County Department of Workforce Development and the NY State Department of Labor have partnered with The Salvation Army of Glens Falls to schedule a seasonal job fair on Thursday, May 18th.
Seasonal businesses in hospitality, tourism/recreation, construction, government and landscaping will be among those at this seasonal fair at The Salvation Army at 37 Broad Street, Glens Falls. It will run from 10 a.m.. to 1 p.m.

Fire In South Glens Falls Sunday

Flames consumed a building at 22 Main Street in South Glens Falls. WNYT reports the fire broke out around 4:30 Sunday morning. The building was once a McDonald’s and later a Chinese restaurant, and the fire spread to a nearby laundromat and chocolate store. No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
