The New York State Police will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired, and reckless driving throughout this Memorial Day weekend. The special enforcement period starts on Friday,May 26, 2023, and runs through Tuesday, May 30, 2023.Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and police will be out in force to remove impaired and reckless drivers from our highways. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols by State Police and local law enforcement agencies during this holiday weekend.

New Details On Initial Monahan-Police Interaction

More details are emerging about what Kevin Monahan said to police the night Kaylin Gillis was shot in Washington County. WNYT reports police said Monahan told them he didn’t want to walk down his driveway to meet officers. He also told them initially he was asleep when the shooting happened, didn’t hear anything, and said hunters were frequently in the area.

Warren County Man Accused Of Stealing Construction Project Money

A Warren County man is facing larceny charges. According to WNYT, 58 year old Kenneth Vassar of Glens Falls stole more than $15,000 meant for construction projects at the VFW building in Queensbury. Vassar was arraigned and sent to the Warren County Jail without bail, due to having multiple prior felony convictions.

Queensbury Pair Facing Weapons Counts

State Police of Queensbury arrested 36 year old Lyisha L. Sambola, of Queensbury, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, while 40 year old Mana Sambola, also of Queensbury, faces similar counts. Authorities discovered the couple was in possession of multiple firearms within their home. Lyisha Sambola was not permitted to possess one of the firearms and Mana Sambola cannot legally possess any firearms due to a previous felony conviction.

Monahan Pleads Not Guilty To New Charges

The man accused of killing Kaylin Gillis in April was in a Washington County courtroom once again on Wednesday afternoon. Kevin Monahan pleaded not guilty to murder, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. WNYT reports the arraignment lasted just 18 minutes. Monahan is accused of shooting and killing Gillis after she mistakenly went up his driveway.

Solar Farm Proposed Atope Warrensburg Capped Landfill

A solar power development company has proposed to establish a solar farm on Warrensburg’s capped town landfill that would likely earn a modest discount for area utility customers who subscribed to the development firm’s community solar program.
Abundant Solar Power Inc. has proposed to develop a solar farm on about five acres atop the Warrensburg landfill, which could provide enough power to supply an estimated 1,000 homes consuming an average amount of electricity.

Stec Signs On To Legislation Banning Migrants From State Dorms

This week Sen. Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) joined several Senate Republican colleagues at a press conference addressing the migrant crisis in New York State. The Sun Community News reports Stec announced he’s sponsoring new legislation, Senate bill S.7390, which would prohibit the use of SUNY dorms to house migrants.

Warren County Declares State Of Emergency Over Potential Migrant Surge

Warren County becomes the latest in the area to declare a state of emergency over a possible migrant surge.
WNYT reports Warren County officials are concerned buses of migrants from New York City could be relocated there, according to Board of Supervisors Chairman Kevin Geraghty. A task force is also looking at options to handle a possible surge.

Whitehall Man Faces Drug Charges After Traffic Stop

State Police of Greenwich arrested a Whitehall man for felony drug possession in Kingsbury. Police stopped the suspect, Jesse J. Tracy, 39, on Pleasant View Drive for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation.
Investigations revealed that Tracy had felony-weight narcotics and another controlled substance. Tracy faces a number of charges as a result.
