A program that empowers students to apply their own individual talents to develop leadership skills has been in place for 10 years at Lake George Elementary School, and the school’s students, teachers and staff celebrated that anniversary recently. Sun Community News reports the event featured performances from the third- and fourth-grade choir, as well as recognition of students, teachers and classes for their achievements.
Road Work In Queensbury Set
– A large stretch of road work is coming to Quaker Road, across its entire stretch of just under four miles. Drivers around Queensbury should expect closures on the busy road starting Monday, June 19. WTEN reports lane closures should be expected across sections of Quaker Road, running from its intersection with Route 9 to Lower Warren Street. Contractors hired by Warren County are set to start replacing and rehabilitating culverts across Quaker Road – 18 in all. The work will also include replacing road signs and rehabilitating pavement.
Bridge To Be Named After Washington County Firefighter
A bridge over the Battenkill River will be named in honor of a Washington County firefighter who inspired his colleagues and community with his service and his fight against cancer. The Post Star reports the span carrying State Route 372 over the river is being after the late Brian Buell, who was deputy chief of the Greenwich Fire Department. Buell died at age 47 in June 2022 from esophageal cancer.
Deadly Hit And Run Case On Hold
New evidence just uncovered by police has led to the adjournment of a hit-and-run trial scheduled to start Tuesday. WNYT reports John Lincoln-Lynch is accused of leaving the scene of a fatal crash in South Glens Falls. The crash killed Paul Trombley in February 2022. Jury selection was set to start Tuesday.
Summer Concert Series In Glens Falls
The Park Theater invites live music to the city of Glens Falls every year – and in the summer, the bands come outside to be heard. The annual Summer Series Concerts by the Park schedule has been announced for 2023. The series kicks off on Friday, June 30, running until July 28. Each Friday evening, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., music comes to the bandshell at Crandall Park. All concerts are completely free, with donations to the Park Theater encouraged to keep the program going.

A4TD specializes in assisting mature workers looking to get back into the workforce or change careers, and a staff member will be on hand at Warren County Career Center on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Three Arrested In Washington County Drug Investigation
Three people have been arrested in connection to a Washington County narcotics investigation, according to police. David Henderson, 46, of New York City, Linda Marshall, 53, of Lake George, and Kristina Ray (Tatsey), 37, of Argyle, are all facing multiple charges. WTEN reports an investigation determined that Henderson, Marshall, and Ray were allegedly involved in the sale of narcotics throughout Washington County.
Task Force Offers Update On Migrant Situation
Warren County’s task force that is preparing for the potential arrival of migrants who are currently being sheltered in New York City has been meeting in recent days, and County Administrator John Taflan provided an update to residents this week about the progress. He said it is not the intent of the county to bring migrants here, pointing to limited affordable housing in the area and already struggling human service agencies and health care facilities.
Gov Update On Air Quality
Gov. Kathy Hochul held a press conference regarding the current air quality in New York State at the University at Albany. Hochul emphasized this is an unprecedented event, with the majority of the state experiencing unhealthy air quality.
Hochul asked that people stay indoors, and suggested that schools continue to suspend outdoor activities for students. The weekend may bring some relief.
Warren County Offering Masks To Protect Against Smoke
As a wave of smoke moves through upstate New York , Warren County announced that N95 face masks would be made available to the public. The county is offering masks on a first-come, first-served basis at the DMV entrance of Warren County Municipal Center. Supplies will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
