Public Hearing On Rezoning Of Queensbury Property

Feedback from Glens Falls residents encouraged the Queensbury Town Board to keep a public hearing open for the rezoning of a Quaker Road parcel for F.W. Webb’s proposed facility. The Post Star reports the parcel at 476 Quaker Road has gone before the Queensbury Planning Board which recommended a zoning change on the property so that the F.W. Webb plumbing supply company could construct a wholesale and retail facility there.

New Funding For Home-Based Child Care Businesses

Newly received federal funding is available to assist residents of Warren County and Saratoga County who would like to open home-based childcare businesses. A bi-county task force of public and private partners has obtained $205,000 in federal grant funding, which can be used for New York State-required trainings, fees, and materials, including technological needs, to start a new home-based child care business.

Long Lake Begins To Rebuild

Long Lake is beginning to clean up from severe flooding that washed out streets, filled homes with water and mud, and damaged infrastructure all around. The Adirondack Daily Enteprise reports the state Department of Transportation reported that all lanes on the roads connecting the town to Blue Mountain Lake and Tupper Lake — state routes 30 and 28N — were reopened on Wednesday morning, thanks to a massive effort from state DOT Crews, Hamilton County and Long Lake highway crews and volunteers.

Lake George Community Band Festival Saturday

People wandering through Lake George Village this Saturday will hear uplifting live music that will bring back memories of a more gracious era, as seven orchestral bands perform during the 17th annual Lake George Community Band Festival. Sun Community News reports the festival is to be held from 12:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Shepard Park’s amphitheater, with each of the bands performing a variety of selections for about 45 minutes. There is no admission charge.

Thursday Night Fireworks In Lake George

A weekly tradition starts this Thursday night in the village of Lake George. The village’s weekly Thursday fireworks on the lake start on July 13 – with a special opening night. WTEN reports Thursday night’s fireworks come with a special drone and light show, a new addition to the lake’s displays. The use of a drone to make the night brighter was seen on the 4th of July, as Independence Day was lit up in lights over the lake.

Stec Resigns From Warren County Board Of Supervisors

After only a few months of active service on the Warren County Board of Supervisors, Queensbury at-large supervisor Hilary Stec has announced she is resigning from her post. Sun Community News reports Stec began her work as an appointee on the board in March, but missed many meetings in May, and was virtually inactive on the board in June.

SUNY Adirondack Budget Public Hearing

On June 30, the Warren County Board of Supervisors unanimously endorsed SUNY Adirondack’s proposed $33.2 million 2023-24 budget — the same spending plan that the board rejected by a slim margin on June 14. Sun Community News reports their decision to approve the community college’s budget is subject to a public hearing set for 10 a.m. Friday, July 21.
The budget commits the county to pay $2,338,560 toward the college’s operating costs for the upcoming school year.

Glens Falls Tops List Of Safest Cities

The city of Glens Falls has been featured for a second year in a row on a prominent list of safest places in the U.S. Once again, it has made it onto Rocket Mortgage’s “15 Safest Cities in the U.S.” – and for a second time, it sits at #1. The article assembles a list of 15 cities from around the county, ranked based on several criteria. It takes into account population, violent and property crime rates, as well as median household incomes, and home prices.

Panel members, to include Warren County Workforce Development Director Liza Ochsendorf and Warren County Probation Department Supervisor Adam Stephenson, will share their insight about the variety of challenges and barriers that formerly incarcerated people face when trying to re-enter society, the workforce, and the community.

Two Whitehall Residents Face Drug Charges

State Police of Granville arrested Charles A. Ricci, 60, of Whitehall, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and drug paraphernalia counts and 38 year old Jaylene E. Brown, 38, of Whitehall, NY, faces similar charges after the two were found in a disabled vehicle along Dolph Pond Road and troopers saw drug paraphernalia in sight and found quantities of drugs while searching their car.
