Executive Session At Library Board Meeting Prompts Criticism

The Rockwell Falls Library Board ended a meeting last week with an executive session but did not explain why, calling the infromation confidential at this time. The Post Star reports that led to violent outbursts from not only the public, but the library director herself. Although legal discussions in executive session may remain secret, decisions are to be disclosed.

Warren County Seeks Foster Parents

Warren County is looking for more foster parents, saying there is a need for people and families to help foster kids to prepare them to either return to their birth families — or to be adopted.
The county says foster parents can be male or female, married or single – but must be at least 21 years old.

Deadly Queensbury Shooting Remains Under Investigation

A shooting at a home on 13 Pershing Road in Queensbury at around 10:27 a.m. Friday morning that killed one person and injured three others remains under investigation. Police say the other three victims are expected to survive after a man shot his mother and two other relatives after learning that his father had died from an illness.

New Mascot Name Finalists For LGCSD

The search for a new mascot is nearing the finish line. The student advisory committee for the Lake George Central School District has announced four finalists for the district’s new nickname. WTEN reports the selections were reviewed by the committee and the choices are thoroughly explained in the voting process. The finalists are the Lake George Falcons; Lake George Islanders; Lake George Lakers; and Lake George Owls.

300 To Lose Jobs With Essity Operations Shutdown

A group of 300 people learned Thursday their jobs have been eliminated in Saratoga and Washington counties. WNYT reports
Essity – a maker of hygiene products – announced that they’re shutting down all their operations in New York state. Their tissue manufacturing plant in South Glens Falls was immediately closed, while operations in Saratoga Springs and Greenwich will continue for some time.

Hague Residents Turn Out On Short Term Rental Ordinance

The Hague Town Board saw firsthand the outpouring of community members interested in the fate of the proposed Short-Term Rental Ordinance at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 11. Sun Community News reports some residents showed up in support, others in fierce opposition, to the ordinance. A public hearing was scheduled for Thursday, July 27 at 6 p.m. to solely address the issue.

Queensbury Man Charged With Arson, Reckless Endangerment

On July 18, 2023, State Police of Queensbury arrested Colby D. Geever, 52, of Queensbury, NY, for Arson, Reckless Endangerment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Geever was charged in connection with the fire at a home and for violating a protection order. The fire which was suspicious in nature was able to be extinguished with minimal damage to the home and no injuries. Two adults and one child occupied the house at the time of the incident.

Lake George Village Dock Fees Likely To Rise

Tying a boat to the Lake George Village docks will likely rise from $3 per hour to $5 per hour later this year. The Post Star reports it comes after a change to local law 95.1 “Regulations for dock use” passed the village board at their meeting Monday July 17. The reference to the $3 hourly rate was removed from the law, as part of a larger shift to a “fee schedule” in the village for various services.
