The Lake George Association (LGA) is enacting a new tradition for the health of the Queen of American Lakes. Sunday, Sep. 17, will mark the first annual “Clean Up Lake George” Day. WTEN reports the LGA is asking neighbors, businesses, and visitors to the village of Lake George to be conscious of trash and remove waste near the lake’s shore. Volunteers can register online to take part in a cleanup effort that starts at 8:30 a.m. at the village pier, or sign up upon arrival.

Person Dies In Schroon River Crash
Local law enforcement is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on East Schroon River Road. Police say a passerby reported seeing a vehicle overturned in the Schroon River, reports WTEN. A dive team responded to the scene and was able to locate and extricate the occupant, who was pronounced deceased. The vehicle involved was a 2006 Subaru.
Closures On Quaker Road In Queensbury
Anyone who plans to drive on Quaker Road in Queensbury should expect to see overnight lane closures beginning Tuesday, September 5, until Wednesday September 20. WNYT reports Quaker Road between the intersections with Route 9 and lower Warren Street will be closed for milling and repaving, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Detours will be in place.
Great Escape Announces ‘The Bobcat’
The Great Escape announced its “largest investment in nearly 25 years” with “The Bobcat,” a new wooden coaster arriving in 2024. Section Of Warren County Bikeway To Close
A section of Warren County Bikeway in Glens Falls will close for several days in early September for improvements.
The portion of the path between Hunter Street and Dix Avenue, passing by Cooper’s Cave Ale Co., will close September 5, 6 and 7 and September 11, 12 and 13.
Those planning to use the 0.15 mile section that is affected should instead bypass it by using Hunter and Sagamore Streets to reconnect with the trail on the south side of Dix Avenue or Hunter Street.
Father Sues Daughter’s Alleged Killer In Washington County
The father of Kaylin Gillis of Schuylerville is suing the man accused of killing her. The Times Union reports Andrew Gillis is suing Kevin Monahan in Saratoga County Supreme Court for allegedly killing his daughter on April 15. Gillis was a passenger in a Ford Explorer that had mistakenly driven up the driveway of Monahan’s home on Patterson Hill Road in Washington County, when Monahan allegedly came out of his house and fired shots.
Lake George Triathlon Returns
The Lake George Triathlon Festival returns to the region this weekend, with race events set for Saturday and Sunday. The Post Star reports it’s the 17th year for the festival, which is hosted by the sports event company Alpha Win, and will draw about 1,000 elite athletes to the region for two days of triathlon events. The events are based at the Lake George Battleground State Campsite, but will include local roads around the lake as part of the running and cycling courses.
Elections Boards Warn Of Impersonators
Boards of Elections staff in Warren and Washington county are warning residents of individuals impersonating election officials accusing them of not being registered to vote legally. The Sun Community News reports this week, a number of incidents have been reported at various locations throughout New York State, including Warren and Washington county, in which individuals have visited the homes of voters, presenting paperwork claiming they were illegally registered to vote.

Man Pleads Guilty In Queensbury Shooting
34 year old Adrian A. Simental pleaded guilty to assault and criminal possession of a weapon Wednesday, stemming from a shooting in Queensbury on November 27, 2022. According to the indictment, an aggressive driving encounter resulted in a verbal dispute at the Walmart store on Route 9. Simental then fired a handgun into the torso of the victim. The victim was treated at Glens Falls Hospital and transported to the Albany Medical Center.
