38 year old Aubree Bannister of South Glens Falls, was arrested for allegedly forging a $35,000 check from the business she works at. State Police say Bannister deposited the forged check into her bank account on August 11. WTEN reports she was arrested on December 14 for possession of a forged instrument and attempted grand larceny.
Lake George Brewery Receives Grant
Adirondack Pub & Brewery, located at 33 Canada Street in Lake George, has been awarded a grant up to $50,000 through the Empire State Development (ESD) Craft Beverage Micro Grant Program. WTEN reports the funding will help the brewery build a 3,000 square-foot addition and buy equipment to expand its brewing operation. The expansion will bring the Adirondack Pub & Brewery to about 15,000 square-feet in total.
Vermont Woman Sentenced In Warren County Attempted Enticement Case
A Vermont resident has been sentenced for attempted enticement and coercion of a minor in Warren County. 33 year old Scarlet Shadows of West Rutland was handed 135 months in prison after pleading guilty. She admitted that she had attempted to entice and coerce what she believed was an 11-year-old girl from Warren County into having a sexual encounter with her in January 2022.
Warren County Reaches Deal For Rail-Bike Excursions
Warren County supervisors voted unanimously to authorize a five-year agreement with Revolution Rail allowing the enterprise to use 40 miles of railroad track the county owns from Antone Road in the town of Corinth to the North Creek station for their various rail-bike excursions from late spring through mid-fall. Sun Community News reports Revolution Rail is to pay $100,000 per year to Warren County from January 2024 through Dec. 31, 2028.
WCSO Helps Kids Who’ve Lost A Parent To Cancer
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office has stepped up to help children who have lost a parent to cancer or other illness. WNYT rpeorts sheriff’s investigators held their annual holiday party last week at The Full Moon Bar and Grill in Queensbury and donated all proceeds to Kelly’s Angels. The owner of Full Moon, Tadd Casey, matched all money raised.
Alleged Moreau Lake State Park Kidnapper Without Attorney
Craig Ross, the man accused of kidnapping a little girl from Moreau Lake State Park, finds himself without an attorney this morning. WNYT reports George Conway, Ross’s attorney, has been appointed the new county attorney by the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors and will no longer be able to represent Ross or other defendants. Ross is charged with kidnapping in the first degree which carries a maximum sentence of up to life in prison.
Monahan’s Lawyers Don’t Want Gillis To Be Called ‘Victim’ At Trial
The attorneys for the man accused of shooting and killing Schuylerville resident Kaylin Gillis, after the vehicle she was in took a wrong turn into his driveway in April, are continuing their efforts to bar the use of the words “victim” or “perpetrator” at trial. Kevin Monahan’s attorneys argue that those words give the impression that a crime has been committed, reports WNYT.
Cannabis Operation Eyes Warrensburg
Another marijuana operation is looking to set up shop in Warrensburg. Sun Community News reports an enterprise titled Asteria Cannabis Farm LLC has applied for a state cannabis microbusiness license, and it is proposed to be located at 4128 state Route 9 in a former small automotive garage between North Country Inn and the former Jaeger House restaurant.
DEC Warns Of Recreational Pitfalls In Adirondacks
DEC is advising recreationists in the Adirondacks of wet and dangerous conditions following recent mild temperatures and heavy rain. The warmer weather and extensive rain melted much of the existing snowpack, swelling waterways and making water crossings dangerous with fast and strong currents. DEC is advising visitors not to attempt stream crossings where bridges are not available. Water temperatures will be extremely cold and full or partial submersion can quickly lead to hypothermia.
Responses To Warren County’s Comprehensive Plan Survey
So far Warren County has had nearly 550 responses to the online survey that is part of Warren County’s Comprehensive Plan development process. 80% of respondents say quality of life in Warren County is “good” or “very good.” 50% of respondents said housing availability and affordability are the county’s biggest challenge. 35% said employment opportunities are the county’s biggest challenge. 30% said housing should be a top priority, and 28% said infrastructure maintenance/improvement should be a top priority.
