No Jurors Seated In Monahan Trial

No jurors were seated on Monday as the trial began for the Washington County man accused of shooting and killing a woman who was a passenger in a vehicle that had mistakenly turned around in his Washington County driveway last April. WNYT reports Kevin Monahan, 66, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Schuylerville resident Kaylin Gillis.

LGLC Gains Land Donation

The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) has been donated 4.4 acres of undeveloped land in the Town of Lake George. Sun Community News reports the property borders the LGLC’s 12-acre East Brook Preserve and includes more than three acres of wetlands and 600 feet of forested steam corridor that help to naturally protect water quality.

Person Who Died In Lake George Rollover Crash Identfied

One person died in a rollover bus crash on the Northway in Lake George, State Police said. WNYT reports the crash happened at about 12:43 p.m. Friday. A total of 23 people were on the Skyway Coach Line bus including the bus driver, that was heading from Montreal and traveling south. In addition to the one fatality, there was one passenger with serious injuries. Other passengers have non-life-threatening injuries have been taken to area hospitals. Glens Falls Hospital was treating 12 patients. The deceased passenger has been identified as Jeanne Elzanie Jourdan Colin, 74, of Montreal, Quebec.

Man Injured In Fort Ann Crash

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office announced they are investigating a rollover crash that occurred in Fort Ann on January 4. The crash took place on State Route 4 near Needhamville Lane. An 86-year-old man that needed to be extricated from a 2018 Volvo and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency Culvert Replacement In Bolton

The Warren County Department of Public Works is beginning work on an emergency culvert replacement in the Town of Bolton. Riverbank Road, also known as County Route 11, is closed effective Thursday, January 4. WTEN reports the work is expected to last six weeks. Residents can utilize the detour route, including East Schroon River Road, Lamb Hill Road/Trout Lake Road, and State Route 9N.

Tedisco Wants COVID Nursing Home Deaths Report To Be Released

Senator Jim Tedisco said a report about COVID-19 nursing home deaths should have been released to the public over a month ago. WTEN reports the senator wants the information to be released so that the state can learn from past mistakes. Over 15,000 nursing home deaths are being blamed on a March 2020 executive order by then Governor, Andrew Cuomo, which placed COVID positive-patients in nursing homes.

AngioDynamics Shutting Down In Warren County

A Warren County manufacturer is telling employees Thursday that the company’s Queensbury and Glens Falls facilities will shut down by the second half of 2025. According to WNYT, AngioDynamics, a catheter and medical device manufacturer in the area for more than 35 years, employs 350 people at its facilities. The company, which has more than 1,000 employees globally, has an investor call scheduled for Friday.

Warren County Seeks Board Of Ethics Volunteers

The Warren County Board of Ethics is looking for volunteers. The Warren County Board of Supervisors is looking for people to join the seven-person panel. WTEN reports the group will meet at least twice a year to review complaints that are referred to the board. They will also make recommendations in regard to the Code of Ethics for elected and non-elected officials in the county government.

Good Winter For Lake George’s New Attractions

After a couple of challenging winters, businesses in Lake George have some new attractions this season and business is good. Two of them are being described as weather-resistant and also not far apart. WTEN reports the previous home of ice castles, the Charles R. Wood Park, is now Winter Realms: a mix of holiday lights and activities.
Just next door at Fort William Henry, Winter’s Dream offers another type of light show. On December 30, 2023, they sold the most tickets in a single day of 1,400 tickets.
