Preparations are underway for Funky Ice Fest in Lake George. WNYT reports the Adirondack Pub & Brewery will serve up a full ice bar experience along with classic arcade games like Pac-Man, and a variety of ice sculptures. The two-weekend event returns on Jan. 19 and Jan. 20, and Jan. 26 and January 27 — the last Fridays and Saturdays in January — from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Testimony Underway In Monahan Trial
Testimony began Thursday afternoon with the playing of 911 recordings showing the moments after Kaylin Gills was shot and the lengthy interactions the dispatcher had with the man accused of killing her, Kevin Monahan, in their efforts to speak with officers. WNYT reports Monahan, 66, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Gillis, who was a passenger in an SUV that had mistakenly turned into his driveway.
Police Say Whitehall Man Used Stolen Truck To Steal Stuff
A man from Whitehall is arrested after allegedly using a stolen truck to steal from a garage.
State Police responded to a home on State Route 22 in Granville where they found 39 year old Nigel Reeks leaving the garage with stolen items in the stolen pickup truck. WNYT reports Reeks did not have permission to be there.
Reeks was taken to jail, where he is awaiting arraignment.
Alleged Kidnapper Asks To Stay Out Of Court
Accused kidnapper Craig Ross Jr. is asking to stay out of court. WNYT reports Ross appeared via Teams video conferencing from the Saratoga County Jail to ask County Judge Jim Murphy to be allowed to stay at the jail and appear virtually for any future appearances. Ross claims appearing in court increases his anxiety, which exacerbates an illness he has.
Jury Picked For Monahan Trial
A group of 12 jurors and four alternates have been picked in trial of Kevin Monahan. The 66 year old is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 20 year old Kaylin Gillis of Schuylerville, who was a passenger in a vehicle that had mistakenly turned up Monahan’s Hebron driveway, reports WNYT. A group of nine men and three women and the main jurors. Three women and one man will serve as alternate jurors.
Johnny Rockets Building At Six Flags To Be Demolished
Six Flags has closed its Johnny Rockets restaurant and will demolish the building attached to its Great Escape Lodge on Route 9 in Queensbury. Officials say given the age and space capabilities of the building, they’ll design a new space that better aligns with the property. Six Flags will announce its plans for the new space within the next couple of months.
Man Charged With Stealing Merchandise From Walmart In Queensbury
A Brooklyn man is facing charges for allegedly stealing from Walmart stores in Saratoga and Warren County. Delle I. Fisher, 48, was taken into custody on warrants following his release from Rikers Island, where he was being held on an unrelated matter. WTEN reports State Police say Fisher reportedly stole over $2,000 worth of merchandise from the Walmart in Wilton. He is also accused of stealing over $3,000 worth of merchandise from the Walmart in Queensbury.
Monahan Trial Jury Prospects Whittled Down
In the Kevin Monahan trial, over the last two days, an initial pool of 500 people being summoned to Washington County Court has been whittled down to over 100. WNYT reports various people were excused because of information they put on their questionnaire that said they would have difficulty serving on this jury.
Hochul Delivers State Of The State Address Tuesday
Gov. Kathy Hochul will deliver the State of the State address in the State Capitol building on Tuesday . She’ll focus on consumer protection and affordability, improving eading proficiency for children across the state, combatting maternal and infant mortality rates and expanding access to safe swimming and minimizing preventable drownings.
Another Storm For The Area
Another storm will head our way later Tuesday into Wednesday. WNYT reports the storm looks like it will produce mostly rain and could potentially lead to flooding with both heavy rain and snowmelt occurring. There will also be a wind element to this system, especially across the higher terrain.
