The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) recently partnered with Warren County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to commission a survey to determine the desire for potential new year-round residents to the Adirondacks. Camoin 310 of Saratoga Springs, New York designed the survey and will compile the results.
The survey is targeted for people living outside of the Adirondack Park. Results will help commissioners understand the important factors which would allow someone to consider relocating to the Adirondacks.
State Police Warn Of Animal Scam
State Police have received multiple calls from people scammed out of hundreds of dollars after answering classified ads for purebred puppies for sale. Victims report after answering the ad, the suspects provide a photo of the breed they are looking for and arrange a deposit to be paid. Once the deposit is cleared, the victim is provided an address, which does not exist, to pick up their puppy. The deposit is requested to be made via payment apps All communication with the “breeder” takes place via text and an address for the puppies is not provided until after the deposit is made.
Scholarship Opportunities In Healthcare
The 2021 Rutland Area Medical Community Scholarship application is currently available for qualified candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. Now in its fifth year, the scholarship program is possible due to the generosity of Rutland area physicians, retired physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, and in 2020, memorial donations in honor of Dr. Joseph Corbett who died in December following a long illness. Eligible candidates include high school seniors, local college students or Rutland area medical community employees who are working toward furthering their goal of a career in healthcare.
Three More COVID Related Deaths In Albany County
Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy confirmed three new COVID-19 linked deaths Monday. The deaths of a man in his 60s, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s, bring the confirmed county death toll to 275 since tracking of the pandemic began last March. McCoy also announced another unfortunate record-high in the county.
The county executive also noted 172 new cases. Plus, the county has 1,902 active cases and 2,990 county residents under mandatory quarantine. Conversely, 312 cases have been cleared for recovery and release.
Efforts To Eradicate Hemlock Wooly Adelgid
DEC and partners Monday issued an update about ongoing efforts to limit the spread of the invasive pest Hemlock Wooly Adelgid (HWA) on Forest Preserve lands in Washington County as part of an ongoing, multi-year initiative. DEC confirmed the HWA infestation in August 2020, and began treatment in October on affected hemlock trees in the Glen Island Campground on the shores of Lake George. Treatment began Oct. 6, 2020 along the shorelines of Lake George and was conducted over a four-week period by DEC staff. DEC prioritized the infestation at Paradise Bay due to the site’s size and levels of infestation. Crews treated 2,374 trees with insecticide on 138 acres of Paradise Bay and injected insecticides directly into the trunks of 80 trees close to sensitive areas. In addition, the New York State Hemlock Initiative released 620 Laricobius beetles, a biological control for HWA, in the treatment area to feed on HWA.
DEC Commish Releases Statement On PFAS Probe
DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos has issued a statement on a New Investigation of Potential PFAS Contamination. It reads,
“I am directing my staff at the Department of Environmental Conservation to work with their expert colleagues at the Departments of Health and Agriculture and Markets to take a hard look at new science shared by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency about potential PFAS contamination in consumer products, including insecticides, pesticides, and other crop protectant products packaged in fluorinated HDPE containers. As a first step, DEC is moving swiftly to quarantine Anvil 10+10 products statewide.”
Latest Warren County COVID Count
Warren County Health Services reported 37 new Warren County resident COVID-19 cases as of Sunday morning, along with 71 additional recoveries.
Fourteen (14) Warren County residents are hospitalized, three (3) more than Saturday. All 14 are moderately ill. Three (3) others are moderately ill outside of the hospital as well.
Health Services staff are monitoring 411 active COVID-19 cases as of Sunday. 394 of these cases involve mild illness.

A posting on the Warren County Sheriff’s Office website warns of a scam that appears to be a legit tax bill to pay your local taxes on line but unfortunately if you fall for it you will lose your money. Please be sure you are only paying your taxes on-line at queensbury.net or in person but do not click on any other website. It is important to note the town does not send out e-mail tax bills but only paper ones. DO NOT click on any other website.

Warren County Health Services is saddened to report that two (2) additional Warren County residents have died from COVID-19. Both were residents of a skilled nursing facility.
Warren County Health Services reported 55 new Warren County resident COVID-19 cases as of Thursday morning, along with 28 recoveries.
Nine (9) Warren County residents are hospitalized, one fewer than Wednesday after one (1) discharge. All 9 are moderately ill, and three (3) others are moderately ill outside of the hospital as well.
Governor Announces Huge Port Of Albany Project
The Port of Albany will soon be building offshore wind turbines. It’s all part of Gov. Cuomo’s plan to bring the largest offshore wind program in the country to New York. The mood at the Port of Albany Thursday morning was jubilant, with lawmakers praising the governor’s plan to bring green energy to the state and Albany. WNYT reports it’s all part of a four-part plan that will create a total of 12,400 megawatts of green energy to power six million homes and create 500 construction jobs, and 300 full-time jobs.
