Queensbury Landfill Could Land On Superfund List

The Queensbury landfill on Jenkinsville Road has been designated a potential state Superfund site. DEC is now in charge of investigating the site and determining whether it is the cause of 1,4-dioxane found in nearby residential wells. The Post Star reports the state Department of Health has also tested many more wells in the nearby neighborhood and will extend the tests further if more wells test positive for dioxane, which was used as a stabilizer for chlorinated solvents.

Warren County Vaccine Sites Wednesday

Pfizer vaccine available today and the rest of this week at NYS mass vaccine site at Aviation Mall. This vaccine is used for those 16 and up. Go to https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/

Warren County Health Services reported 14 new Warren County resident COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday morning, along with 12 additional recoveries.
Seven (7) Warren County residents are hospitalized, one (1) more than Monday in light of one (1) admission. One (1) is critically ill and six (6) are moderately ill.
Two (2) others are moderately ill outside of the hospital.
Health Services staff are monitoring 107 active COVID-19 cases.

Warren County To Hire Solid Waste Recycling Compliance Coordinator

Warren County is adding a new position to help make sure that waste haulers are keeping recyclable materials out of the waste stream. The Post Star reports the Warren County Board of Supervisors on Friday approved creating a solid waste recycling compliance coordinator at a salary of nearly $43,000. The county needs to make sure that waste haulers are actually diverting recyclables from the landfill and not just mixing them in with the regular garbage and don’t have the staff to do that currently.

Vaccine Availability Locally

Several local pharmacies have open COVID vaccine appointments this week. Walmart pharmacies on Route 9 in Queensbury and Quaker Ridge Road in Queensbury were booking appointments for Monday afternoon with Moderna vaccine, while CVS and Walgreens websites show Pfizer vaccine available at local stores. Price Chopper/Market 32, Hannaford and Rite Aid are also regularly getting allotments

Be Wary Of Hungry Bears

Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department is issuing a reminder that spring is here and the bears that just woke up are hungry. They had a possible hungry bear take a bird feeder on South Union Street in the Village of Cambridge. Just be mindful of where you keep your garbage and keep an extra eye out on your pets that hang outside. If you happen to spot one in your yard please reach out to police. There was also a bear reported on Coila Rd Sunday.

29,598 Warren County residents (46.1% of the county’s population, 11th highest in New York State) received their first vaccine doses as of April 15, and 23,209 have been fully vaccinated. 36.1% of Warren County residents have completed a vaccination series, compared to the state average of 26.4%.
