Fire Within Hudson Pointe Nature Preserve

Wednesday, a fire was reported to local fire companies and originated within the Hudson Pointe Nature Preserve property. An area near the riverside bluffs was burning and several fire companies responded along with DEC Forest Rangers to control and extinguish the blaze. The trail system was not affected and the trails will remain open for public use. DEC Forest Rangers will continue to closely monitor the site to control any hot spots. This is an important reminder that there is a statewide burn ban in effect through May 14th.

Correction Officer Exam To Use New Format

Warren County will be holding an upcoming county Correction Officer exam using a “training and experience” format rather than the traditional written Civil Service exam format.
Instead of a written test, candidates will complete an online “Training and Experience Questionnaire” between June 1, 2023, and June 30, 2023. Those interested in this test should file for this new format by May 12.

Small Property Tax Increase Proposed For LGCSD

The proposed 2023-2024 budget for the Lake George Central School District, approved by its board of education on April 4, calls for a 2.29% increase in real property taxes. The Post Star reports the district anticipates a $441,040 increase in revenue coming from real property taxes, and other revenues totaling $24,808,692 to be used to balance the budget. The board anticipates $21,453,000, or 86.5% of the district’s revenue, to come from real estate taxes alone, with $2,377,612 in state aid as the only other amount reaching the millions.

Drag Queen Story Hour Postponed In Lake Luzerne

The Rockwell Falls Public Library Board of Trustees has voted to postpone the Drag Queen Story Hour, which was scheduled for Saturday in Lake Luzerne. WNYT reports parents were divided over the event and now organizers now plan to do additional research into the performer and the content of the show, they said, and will share that information with the community.

Lake George Looking At Potential Sewage, Wastewater Infrastructure Debt

Although Lake George Village’s 2023-24 budget calls for a 17.8 percent decrease in the local property tax rate, in the near future local taxpayers will be facing about $5 million in new debt if state grants cannot be obtained. Sun Community News reports it’s due to the pending rehabilitation of the village’s sewage pump stations of about $2.5 million as well as upgrades to the village’s new $24.5 million wastewater treatment plant.

Greenwich Man Arrested On Forgery Counts

State Police of Greenwich arrested Garrett A. Murray, 25, of Greenwich, NY, for Forgery. He was accused of allegedly interceptking a check named to the victim and forged the victim’s signature without their permission in order to endorse the check. He then deposited the check into, an account belonging to himself. Murray was arrested at his home and processed at SP Greenwich. He was then transported to the Washington County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.

Siena College Poll On Residents’ Satisfaction Living In NY

A recent Siena College poll reveals 70% of respondents said they are happy that they live in New York. That leaves 30% that wish they lived somewhere else. On crime safety, those polled are almost evenly split, with 51% saying they feel safe from crime and 49% saying they somewhat or don’t feel safe. More than 70% rated the state as either excellent or good on the availability of leisure activities.

Construction Next Week On Olmstedville Road

Construction will begin the week of April 17 on Olmstedville Road (Warren County Route 19) in the Town of Chester-Warren County. This will be a multi-month project.

Planning Board OK’s Project For Indoor Market Center

The project to redesign 51-63 South St. into an indoor market center has taken a major step forward. According to the Post Star, the Glens Falls Planning Board approved site and architectural plans at its meeting last week. The South Street Market Center developers addressed board comments from the previous planning board meeting on April 4.

Stefanik Announces Bid For Sixth Term

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is running for a sixth term in office. In an announcement shared early Tuesday, Stefanik said she’s proud to have the universal support of the 21st Congressional District’s Republican and Conservative party committees, and the state leadership. Adirondack Daily Enterprise reports she’s also raised a significant sum of money even before formally announcing her bid, bringing in $3 million in the last reporting quarter according to her campaign.
