New App To Protect The Waters Of Lake George

Lake George has launched a first of its kind app to protect the lake. The Lake George Association launched the app so that homeowners can assess their property’s impact on the lake, and get recommendations for improvement, according to WNYT.
The association said the app is meant for everyone, even those with no property in the watershed.

Queensbury Woman Charged In Attempted Break In

A Queensbury woman is accused of trying to break into someone’s house and trying to hit a good Samaritan who intervened.
WNYT reports Roxanne Gordon damaged the victim’s house with a tool while trying to break in. Police tell us a good Samaritan tried to intervene when Gordon used the tool as a weapon and attempted to strike them with it.
Gordon was found by law enforcement in the area.

Costly Appeal In Cambridge Surrounding School Mascot

The Cambridge Central School District confirms the cost of its appeal of a state order to retire its Indians nickname and emblem exceeded $51,000 through the end of February. According to WNYT, back in June 2021, the board of education first voted to retire the name. That vote was reversed since then, and the district appealed to the state education commissioner.

Summer Series Concerts at the Crandall Park Bandshell

The Park Theater Foundation is presenting their third annual free Summer Series Concerts at the Crandall Park Bandshell. The shows are scheduled for every Friday night starting June 30 through July 28. WTEN reports the concert series aims to make the arts more accessible to the community, featuring performances from local and regional musicians. The shows will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will also host a rotating lineup of local food trucks throughout the series.

Five Teens Hurt In Rollover In White Creek

Five teenagers were injured in a rollover crash in White Creek near the Vermont state line. WNYT reports a teenage girl had to be airlifted to Albany Medical Center, after she was critically hurt. It happened on County Route 68. Four other teenagers went to hospitals for minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation, but speed may have been a factor, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

Indictment Handed Up In Hebron Shooting

A Washington County grand jury has returned an indictment in the shooting death of 20 year old Kaylin Gillis. WNYT reports the murder indictment against Kevin Monahan, 65, was handed up late Thursday morning.
Monahan is accused of shooting and killing Gillis on the night of April 15 as she rode in an SUV that had mistakenly driven up his driveway in Hebron.

Lake Luzerne Residents Charged In Disturbance

Two Lake Luzerne residents face charges after a disturbance in Milton. 36 year old Douglas Macwhinnie is charged with · Criminal Possession of a Weapon, menacing, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. 32 year old Richard Macwhinnie is charged with harrassment. Police say they and a Greenfield resident approached a vehicle occupied by three adults and two children under the age of twelve. Douglas Macwhinnie and the Greenfield resident reportedly struck the vehicle causing damage. All three were yelling and acting in a manner that alarmed the vehicle’s occupants.

Two Face Charges After Glens Falls Traffic Stop

State Police arrested Joseph E. Millington, 33, of Warrensburg, NY, for False personation and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. 54 year old David D. Rock, 54, of Fort Ann, NY, was also arrested for two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On May 14, 2023, at about 1:19 a.m. Troopers stopped a vehicle on State Route 9 in Glens Falls, NY, for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation., with the two men inside.

Drag Queen Story Hour Off In Lake Luzerne

The controversial Drag Queen Story Hour previously scheduled in April at Rockwell Fall Libray in Lake Luzerne was put on hold after public outrage in the community. A meeting was held to allow members of Rockwell Fall’s Library Board to decide if and when they’ll host the Drag Queen Story Hour, and the decision was made not to reschedule.

Stefanik Looks To Reverse Ban On Natural Gas Appliances

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik led the New York Republican Congressional Delegation in sending a letter to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, strongly urging her to reverse the ban on natural gas appliances that was included in the passed FY 2024 New York State Budget. Stefanik called the measure ‘one of the worst parts of the budget’.
