A man who murdered a teenager in Washington County and terrorized and raped women in at least four states has died behind bars. WNYT reports Kenneth Yarter murdered Susan Zanta, 16, in Argyle in July of 1974. He admitted to the killing, but claimed police forced his confession. New York’s highest court agreed, and he was set free. Yarter was 72.

Winter Attraction At Fort William Henry?
Warren County is considering a major new cold weather attraction that will last all winter long and draw tens of thousands of visitors. According to WNYT, organizers are calling it The Winter Experience, and it would take place at Fort William Henry in Lake George, December through March. It would be a winter-themed nighttime park with lights, sound, video projection and shows.
Warren County Board Votes On SUNY Adirondack Budget
The Warren County Board of Supervisors voted against approving the upcoming year’s spending plan for SUNY Adirondack. Sun Community News reports at the board’s June 14 meeting, the motion to approve SUNY Adirondack’s 2023-24 school-year $33.2 million budget — committing the county to pay $2,338,560 toward the college’s operating costs — failed to pass by two votes.

An event is happening to benefit the Lake George Arts Project, in the form of a disco summer cruise.
From 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, DJ Absolute Sound will play audience-favorite hits aboard the Adirondac, a cruise boat operated by Waterfront Cruises at 2 Kurosaka Lane in the village of Lake George. Boarding starts at 6:30 p.m. and dressing up is encouraged. The evening of fun includes prizes for best dressed, as well as food and drink to keep the fun running.
Lake George Man Arrested After Incident Involving Woman At Drug Store
A Lake George man was arrested on Thursday and is accused of simulating a sex act on an unsuspecting female shopper at the Lake George Walgreens. Scott Habshi, 58, faces multiple charges after allegedly pressing himself up against the woman at the store as she picked out a greeting card. He reportedly apologized but then did the same thing minutes later.
Cambridge Central School District Superintendent To Retire
The superintendent of Cambridge Central School District is set to retire. Dr. Douglas Silvernell announced that he will be retiring effective August 31. According to WTEN, Silvernell has worked for the district for the past four years. He helped guide students and staff during the pandemic and the change in the district’s mascot. It has not been announced when a new superintendent will be put in place for the district.
