Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance Sees Big Jump In Membership

The Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance, which operates the park’s visitor center and sponsors historical events there every summer, held an annual meeting over the weekend. Those in attendance came out with significant numbers on a significant year for the organization. Officials say the alliance had seen a 78% increase in membership over the last year.

Grief Counseling At Fort Ann School District In Wake Of Student’s Death

Grief counseling was available in the Fort Ann School District on Monday for anyone in the community struggling with the loss of 14 year old Rycky Stark, who was killed last Wednesday night inside an apartment at 3 Charles Street. WNYT reports four kids between the ages of 13 and 17 were there playing with a shotgun, when Rycky was shot in the stomach. Authorities don’t believe it was intentional.

Work Leads To Lane Closures On Northway

There will be closures on the Northway near exit 24 starting Tuesday. WNYT reports they will be replacing the bridge that carries Bolton Landing-Riverbank Road over the Northway.
The northbound lane of the Northway will be closed from Tuesday at 10pm to Wednesday at 6 a.m.
Work will continue from the same hours on Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Siy To Leave As President Of Lake George Association

Eric J. Siy, president of the Lake George Association (LGA), has announced that he will be leaving his post at the end of the year. The Adirondack Almanack reports Siy successfully led the LGA through its merger with The FUND for Lake George in July 2021. Prior to his current position, Siy served as executive director of The FUND since 2012.

Partial Road Closure At Night This Week In Queensbury

A portion of Quaker Road in Queensbury will be closed to all traffic 8pm to 11pm through Thursday, August 24th as contractors resurface a section of the road. Those who plan to visit the Walmart store on Quaker Ridge Boulevard, the only business in this stretch of road regularly scheduled to be open during these hours, will be able to do so from Quaker Road by entering the road from Dix Avenue.

Washington County Fair Starts Monday

The Washington County Fair kicks off Monday in Greenwich. WNYT reports gates open at 5 p.m. for the official opening. The fair hours Tuesday-Saturday are 10 a.m. – 10 p.m, and Sunday til 9pm.
Tickets are $15 for adults and kids under 13 get in for free.

Two Face Drug Charges In Lake Luzerne

Two women have been arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Lake Luzerne, according to state police. Tasha Tatsey, 39, of Lake Luzerne, and Sidney Lapier III, 43, of Corinth, are both facing multiple charges. The pair were stopped in a vehicle on Lake Avenue and drugs were found inside.

Warrensburg Man Charged With Stealing HEAP Fund Money

A 73-year-old Warrensburg man is now facing multiple felony charges related to five years of alleged HEAP fraud.
Warren County Sheriff’s deputies arrested John A. Blydenburg Aug. 7 after an investigation conducted the by Warren County Department of Social Services allegedly determined that over the course of five years he accepted a total of $11,042.93 in HEAP benefits he was not entitled to.

Warren County Wants Earlier Head’s Up On Overspending From Departments

Warren County Treasurer Mike Swan warned county supervisors Aug. 3 that county department directors need to give more timely notice about spending more than has been budgeted for personnel costs and other specified expenses. Sun Community News reports officials say budget overruns are considered “illegal” under state regulations and might raise cause compliance problems with the state Comptroller’s Office.

Land And Water Conservation Celebration Raises $260,000

The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) hosted more than 200 guests for its 24th annual Land and Water Conservation Celebration in late July. Sun Community News reports in total, the event raised over $260,000 to directly support some of the LGLC’s most pressing and urgent projects including the Wiawaka Uplands Conservation Project.
