Court Weighs Removing Whitehall Judge In Connection With Courtroom Incident

Whitehall judge Justice Robert Putorti, is currently facing potential removal from the bench by New York’s highest court due to an incident that occurred eight years ago. Putorti, who has presided over the town and village courts in Whitehall since 2014, was accused of pointing a loaded gun at a Black defendant, Brandon Wood, in his courtroom, after Purporti claims Wood rushed the judge’s bench.

Rockwell Falls Library Closed Amid Staffing Shortage

Officials from the Rockwell Falls Library confirmed Tuesday evening that Courtney Keir has resigned as director of the library, meaning two thirds of the staff has been lost in the course of a week and the library is closed until further notice, according to a Facebook posting. The message goes on to outline several “accommodations” the board is making to help patrons during the transition.

Stefanik Wants To See Adirondack Line Fully Operational

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik has called on railway operators to address future disruptions to the Adirondack line.
Operations north of Saratoga Springs resumed on Sept. 11 after a summer-long hiatus. Stefanik is demanding that the 380-mile line be fully operational by next summer. The two-page letter was addressed to presidents Roger Harris of Amtrak and Tracy Robinson of Canadian National.

Hydrant, Water Main Flushing Underway In Glens Falls

A reminder that hydrant and water main flushing is underway in the city of Glens Falls this week. The flushing process is expected to take between 10 and 15 days. While flushing is ongoing, residents will see crews at work in areas around fire hydrants. Signage will let residents know 24 hours in advance when it’s their local hydrant’s turn to get flushed.

Warren, Washington County Vets Getting Free Trip To Gettysburg

Early Friday morning, Military Veterans in Warren and Washington Counties depart to historic Gettysburg, PA for a free two-day excursion. At 7 a.m., 27 veterans are set to embark on the bus ride from the Municipal Center. WRGB reports representatives of Warren County Veterans Services and partner agencies will gather with veterans and their guests for the trip to learn about U.S. and military history.

Return Of Lake George Fall Renaissance Fair

Moose Hillock Camping Resort announced they will be hosting the return of the Lake George Fall Renaissance Fair. The annual event will open on October 5 and run through October 8. WTEN reports the venue’s campgrounds will be filled with knights and nobles as attendees enjoy jousting matches, sword duels, parades, family games and costume contests. The fair will also offer a wide array of food and crafts vendors.

Lake George ADK 5K Raises Dollars For Land Conservancy

Figures are in from last weekend’s seventh annual ADK 5K in Lake George which saw around 500 runners come out in support of this year’s beneficiary – among about 1,000 attendees overall. WTEN reports this year’s run raised nearly $3,000 for the Lake George Land Conservancy.

Warrensburg’s World’s Largest Garage Sale Upcoming

Downtown Warrensburg’s annual tradition of crowded streets of things to buy is about to come back. The 2023 World’s Largest Garage Sale comes to town on the weekend of Friday, Sept. 29 – Sunday, Oct. 1. WTEN reports the annual market takes over Main Street through downtown Warrensburg, with some sales extending into side streets and the parking lots of local businesses.

Warrensburg Residents Voice Concerns Over Poultry Plans

At a recent Warrensburg Town Board meeting, about a half-dozen Warrensburg residents expressed opposition to the town’s proposed zoning ordinance amendments which would establish restrictions on raising poultry. Sun Community News reports the proposed law would give the town’s code enforcement officer power to enforce restrictions on how many chickens and other fowl, including ducks, turkeys and quail could be raised on a resident’s property, and how they would have to be contained on one’s premises.

Lake George Clean Up Attracted More Than 100 Volunteers

The bottom of a dumpster 30 yards long was filled up over the weekend by volunteers in Lake George. WTEN reports more than 100 came out around the village to pick up trash during the Lake George Association’s first annual Clean Up Lake George event. From 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Sept. 17, volunteers took to the shoreline. They found cups, bottles, clothing, and cigarette butts, as well as less common items: A tire, metal chair, and even an abandoned fire extinguisher.
