Volunteer firefighters and rescue squad workers in Warren County will be eligible for a 10% exemption on their Warren County property taxes under a new law enacted Friday by the Warren County Board of Supervisors.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously passed the property tax exemption local law creating the exemption on assessed value of a primary residence for volunteer first responders with at least two (2) years of service for the community where they reside while they are an active member.

Warren County Civil Service Exam
Warren County is offering a Civil Service exam for communication officer positions at the Warren County emergency dispatch center. This examination is being held to establish an eligible list to be used as vacancies occur in the Warren County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center. The deadline to file for this exam is December 14, and the exam is scheduled for January 27, 2024.
Warren County Housing Study To Be Discussed
Warren County, encompassing Glens Falls, Queensbury, and part of the Southern Adirondacks, is taking a look at housing. Residents in and around the county have been invited to a meeting on a recent housing study that takes a look at the state of houses, apartments, and short-term rentals in the North Country county. WTEN reports a meeting is set for Tuesday, Nov. 14, on the study.
Glens Falls Police Probe Hit And Run
GlensFalls Police are looking for a car and driver involved in a hit and run. The victim’s granddaughter says her grandmother was walking to Glens Falls Hospital to visit her husband, when she was hit by a car. The driver took off. The victim was hurt, but her granddaughter said she will recover.
Silver Bay YMCA Announces Grant Funding
A YMCA and community center operating near the northern end of Lake George is about a lot more than the usual athletics and classes associated with the name. Recent grant funding is bolstering what it’s able to offer those living around the northwest side of the lake. WTEN reports this week, the Silver Bay YMCA announced it had been awarded a $2,500 grant to help provide emergency housing for families in need, and who may not have many options.
Electrical Issue Leads To Fire That Destroyed Warrensburg Home
A fire that destroyed a home in Warrensburg on Wednesday morning was caused by an electrical issue in the garage. WNYT reports the husband and wife who own the home made it out safely, but firefighters spent the next few hours trying to save some of their belongings, including memorabilia and equipment once owned by a close relative who was a U.S. Olympian.
Lake George Polar Plunge
Hundreds of people will don bathing suits the morning of Nov. 18, and go running into the icy cold water of Lake George for the Polar Plunge. It happens each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Participants raise money for the event, with proceeds going to Special Olympics New York. WNYT reports this year, it takes place on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 9 a.m.
Lake George Honoring Veterans
In Lake George, veterans of the U.S. armed forces and active military personnel from Warren County and elsewhere in the Adirondacks will be honored at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 during Fort William Henry’s “Field of Flags” ceremony — and the public is invited to participate. Sun Community News reports the Veterans Day event is to be held on the front lawn of the fort, where 9,366 flags are on display through Nov. 12, each representing a soldier or veteran.

The Post Star reports on some Warren County unofficial election results.
Democrat Carrie Black looks to have bested Republican Emily McCabe McGrath in the race for Warren County Clerk. Initial results show Black, also on the Warren County Committed line, with 4,994 votes to Emily McCabe McGrath’s 4,202. The seat was open after longtime clerk Pam Vogel retired.
Supervisors from Glens Falls will include: Jack Diamond, Haley Gilligan, Nancy Turner, Daniel Bruno and Ben Driscoll in wards 1 through five respectively.
Gilligan, a Democrat, handily beat incumbent Peter V. McDevitt, 90 votes to 30 in the race for the Ward 2 Supervisor slot. In Ward 3, Nancy Turner, a Democrat, beat Magen MacDavid 311 to 236 while Democrat Bennet Driscoll took on Republican Nicholas Collins 204 to 90.
In Queensbury, the race for four seats as Supervisor-At-Large shows that Democrat and Conservative Dave Strainer took 3,319 votes. Mike Wild, a Republican, took 3,098 votes. Nathan Etu garnered 2,942, and Brad Magowan took 2,681 to fill the seats. Republican Brady Stark won 2,570 votes. Democrats Robin Larkin won 2,395 and Michael Parwana won 2,173.

Finding A New Logo For LGSD Sports Teams
The name “Lakers” has been embraced by students and the public as the new nickname for Lake George School District’s sports teams since it was chosen by the students and school community in August, but the adoption of a fitting graphic logo for the Lakers moniker remains in limbo. Lake George Superintendent of Schools John Luthringer tells Sun Community News, they don’t have a logo concept yet, and shifted to bringing in a second organization to help with the the development of one.
