Trial Underway For Mayfield Man Charged With Threats Against Glens Falls Business

Opening arguments in the federal court trial of a Mayfield man accused of making threats to a Glens Falls business. According to WNYT, Jesse Bedell is accused of leaving multiple phone messages for two employees at Medline Industries in Glens Falls, saying he would burn the plant down and blow up the two workers. The facility had taken back a job offer for Bedell a day earlier because he didn’t disclose a conviction for larceny from 2017.

Sentencing Set For Motorcyclist Involved In Deadly Lake George Crash

The man who admitted to crashing a motorcycle into a family walking on the Warren County Bike Trail and killing two people is expected to be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison on Tuesday. WNYT reports Anthony Futia will be sentenced for the death of Jamie Persons and his 8-year-old stepson, Quinton Delgadillo. Before he was convicted of manslaughter and aggravated vehicular homicide in this case, he had been convicted of burglary, stabbing and grand larceny.

Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Phone Scams

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office has received complaints of a caller falsely representing themselves as calling from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office in order to scam the victim out of money. Complainants are reporting that they are receiving calls from a number that has been “spoofed” and appears on their called ID as the actual number for the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the caller states that the victim has failed to appear after being subpoenaed or that they have missed a court date and now need to pay a fine or risk being arrested.

LGLC Receives Funding To Control Hemlock Woolly Adelgid

The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) has been awarded a grant of $86,215 to support rapid response and management efforts to control the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) on its Clark Hollow Bay Preserve in the Town of Putnam. Sun Community News reports the LGLC’s Land Steward discovered an infestation at its recently acquired 60-acre Clark Hollow Bay property in spring 2023. This was the first time HWA had been found on LGLC-protected property, and is at the northern frontier of the HWA infestation at Lake George and in the Adirondack Park.

Funding In Warren County For Home-Based Child Care Businesses

Newly received federal funding is available to assist residents of Warren and Saratoga counties who would like to open home-based childcare businesses.
A bi-county task force of public and private partners has obtained $205,000 in federal grant funding, which can be used for New York State-required trainings, fees, and materials, including technological needs, to start a new home-based child care business.

A preliminary survey conducted as an initial task in developing Warren County’s comprehensive plan has identified the availability of affordable housing, suitable jobs, public transportation and high-speed broadband access throughout the county as top issues facing local citizens. Sun Community News reports the “walkability” of local communities, was also cited as issues revealed in the study’s initial findings.

Cambridge Man Accused Of Trying To Lure Child

A Washington County man is accused of trying to lure a child in Vermont. Richard H. Wulff, 35, of Cambridge, also allegedly disseminated indecent material to the minor, reports WNYT. Investigators were notified on July 22, 2022, and recently arrested him. Wulff was released on his own recognizance. He is due in Vermont Superior Court-Bennington Criminal Division on Thursday.

Boys Hoops Tournament Leaving Glens Falls

The Boys State Basketball Tournament will not be held in Glens Falls in 2025. The city usually rolls out the red carpet for players, coaches and fans. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association voted Wednesday to hold the tournament in Binghamton from 2025 to 2027, reports the Post Star. The vote was 12 to 10.
