The appeal of the Kevin Monahan murder conviction took a step forward on Thursday as his defense team has retained the lawyer who will handle the appeal. WNYT reports Albany criminal defense attorney Matthew Hug has been hired to appeal the conviction. A jury found Monahan guilty of murder in the shooting death of Kaylin Gillis. She was a passenger in a vehicle that had mistakenly driven up his driveway in Hebron.

Man Charged With Stealing From Cabin Rental Business In Bolton
A Plattsburgh man is accused of stealing from a Warren County cabin rental business when he worked as the general manager there. WTEN reports 32 year old Spencer C. Thibault allegedly took $8,800 in cash received for a rental at Canoe Island Lodge in the town of Bolton last May. He also altered business records to try to cover up the theft, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

Fort Ann Teen Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter
The Fort Ann teen accused of shooting and killing a 14-year-old boy at his home last year pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Tuesday – after previously rejecting a deal last month. WNYT reports 18 year old Jaden Walden admitted in Washington County Court that he caused the death of Rycky Stark Jr. on Aug. 16 when he pointed the shotgun in Stark’s direction, not realizing the gun was loaded. The gun fired and struck Stark in the abdomen, killing him, police said.
Police Say South Glens Falls Woman Set Clothes On Fire With Blowtorch
A South Glens Falls woman was arrested for allegedly setting clothes on fire with a blowtorch during a domestic incident.
WNYT reports officers responded to a residence on Second Street Saturday for a report of a woman who had set a pile of a man’s clothing on fire in an upstairs bedroom. 39 year old Desirae L. Sauter, 39, put out the fire before police arrived She’s charged with a felony count of arson and misdemeanors of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief.
Whitehall Woman Arrested In Car Dealership Embezzlement
A Whitehall woman accused of taking money while working at the Oliver Subaru of Rutland is due in court on April 1. WTEN reports Vermont State Police say 29 year old Madison Carrig committed 17 counts of embezzlement and credit card fraud, resulting in the dealership losing over $120,000. Further investigations determined that Carrig had also committed embezzlement while employed at Lundgren Audi, Volkswagon, and Dodge Ram of Rutland Town. The dealership reportedly lost over $10,000.
South High Marathon Dance Raises $747K
This year’s South High Marathon Dance in South Glens Falls was a huge money maker as hundreds of students danced for 28 hours straight. The students began dancing at 7 p.m. Friday and wrapped up at 10:30 p.m. Saturday. $747,000 was raised for 13 organizations that provide support to people in the community.
Warren County Hit Hard By Wild Winds
Strong winds left damage across the Capital Region with thousands still without power Thursday afternoon.
Warren County was particularly hard hit, with several roads expected to be closed until Friday as crews worked to repair utility poles sheared off by intense winds. The number of customers without power was steadily decreasing Thursday evening. WNYT reports in Lake Luzerne, Call Street near Daniels Road was closed for several miles. The county reported nine downed poles there, as downed power lines litter the road.
Monahan To Be Sentenced Friday In Killing Of Kaylin Gillis
Kevin Monahan, 66, of Hebron, is being sentenced Friday after being convicted of shooting and killing 20-year-old Schuylerville resident Kaylin Gillis, who was a passenger in a vehicle that had turned around his driveway on April 15, 2023. Monahan was found guilty in late January of second-degree, reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence.
