Police Seek Driver In Deadly Hit And Run Crash In Queensbury

New York State Police are looking for information on a fatal hit-and-run crash in Queensbury on Tuesday night. WRGB reports police responded around 8:40 p.m., to the intersection of Main Street and Big Boom Road in Queensbury for the reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle suffering from severe injuries. According to police, the car was witnessed fleeing the scene and is described as “possibly a dark-colored sedan with front end or undercarriage damage.” The 47-year-old local woman struck was rushed to Glens Falls Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

Juicin’ Jar To Close In Glens Falls

Juicin’ Jar, located at 16 Exchange Street in Glens Falls, is closing its doors. Owner Cristina Hanchett and manager Nicole Laubenheimer made the announcement on Facebook on April 15. WTEN reports Juicin’ Jar’s last day will be Saturday, April 20. According to the post, some food items may not be available toward the end of the week, and gift shop products are 75% off.

47 Year Sentence For Moreau Lake State Park Kidnapper

47 years behind bars for the man who kidnapped a 9-year-old girl from Moreau Lake State Park last September, sparking a frantic two-day search. WNYT reports 47 year old Craig Ross Jr. pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court in February to kidnapping and another charge against him. Ross abducted the girl from the park on Sept. 30. The girl was found with Ross in a camper behind a trailer home in the town of Milton.

Likely Increase Coming In Warrensburg School District Budget

Two administrators of the Warrensburg School District informed town officials April 10 about a likely 3.3 percent increase in the pending 2025 district budget, prompting discussions about ways the district could either operate more efficiently or boost its student population. Sun Community News reports school district business manager Jennifer Switzer said the 2024-25 tax levy would increase by $237,000 — a hike that would be larger if the school board had not decided to draw money from fund balance and various reserve accounts.

Ross To Be Sentenced In Moreau Lake State Park Abduction

Craig N. Ross Jr. is due back in court on Wednesday to be sentenced. He faces 47 years to life in prison after being convicted of kidnapping a Greenfield girl from Moreau Lake State Park last fall. The Daily Gazette reports Ross was 46 years old at the time of the kidnapping. He resided in Ballston Spa. The girl, who authorities said was under 13, vanished on a bike ride with friends in Moreau Lake State Park, and was found with Ross days later.

Lake Luzerne Man Arrested For Alleged Sexual Offense Against A Child

A Lake Luzerne man was arrested on Friday for an alleged sexual offense against a child. Cecil Mosher, 71, was charged with Course of Sexual Conduct against a Child in the second degree, a felony. WTEN reports police said on April 9 they received information about an adult having inappropriate contact with a Warren County child. Police found that Mosher had sexual contact multiple times with a child under the age of 11 in Lake Luzerne.

Monahan Doing Time In Elmira For Gillis Killing

Kevin Monahan, the man who killed Kaylin Gillis when a car she was in accidentally turned into his driveway, is serving 26 years to life in prison. Monahan, 66, is being housed at the Elmira Correctional Facility.
Monahan was found guilty Jan. 23 after a two-week trial.

Gillis Shooting Prompts Cell Service Upgrades In Washington County

Since the death of Kaylin Gillis one year ago, there has been a push to improve cellphone service in that part of Washington County. WNYT reports after the shooting on April 15, 2023 on Patterson Hill Road in the town of Hebron, the group of friends tried to call 911 for help. However, they did not have cell service there. They had to drive for about five minutes before finally being able to make that call for help.

Repair Cafe In Glens Falls Saturday

What do you do with a broken toaster? A bike whose wheels run out of air? A necklace with a broken clasp? Toss it? Or fix it? Zero Waste Warren County and the Crandall Public Library have partnered to help fix those items at the first Repair Café in Glens Falls. On Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., in the Crandall Public Library’s Christine L. McDonald Community Room, everything will be about making repairs. About a dozen volunteer repair experts will be available to help repair people’s cherished or functional objects free of charge. Tools and materials will also be on hand.
