School district voters head to the polls today vote on school budgets and school board candidates. In Lake George, they’ll be voting on a nearly $24 million spending plan with no additional dollars being spent from the current budget. There’s a proposed tax levy increase of 1.2% and there’s also a proposition to purchase another school bus at a cost not to exceed $110,000.

Warren County Health Services began COVID vaccine clinics in participating school districts on Monday with a clinic at Queensbury Union Free School District, where 94 shots were administered. Clinics will continue in other participating school districts this week and early next week.
Parents who would like their child vaccinated at a school clinic should return permission slips to school officials as soon as possible. Parents will be able to attend these school clinics with their children.

Skyler Crouse is charged with murder in a crash getting away from police that killed Warren County boat builder Joseph Turcotte. WNYT reports Crouse, who now lives on the Akwesasne Reservation, told police our laws don’t apply to him. He was arraigned on an indictment late last week which adds a charge of second-degree murder to the existing counts of manslaughter and assault.
Warren County Health Services reported seven (7) new Warren County resident COVID-19 cases as of Thursday morning, along with four (4) additional recoveries. One involved someone at Lake George Jr/Sr High School. It’s not clear if a student or staff member tested positive but it involves someone who has been involved with in person learning. Contact tracing is being done.
The Warren County Soil & Water Conservation District (WCSWCD) has received funding to document what happens below the surface of Lake George. WTEN reports crews using special underwater equipment will show viewers both unaffected areas as well as areas that have been altered by man-made factors in an effort to promote protectoin of natural resources and a better understanding of human-induced disturbances.
The Washington County Fair is planning to open this year, after having to cancel during the pandemic last summer. Presale tickets are available now for the fair, which will run Aug. 23 through Aug. 29. Fair entries will be accepted starting in June. Fair officials advised those who have an entry planned to watch the fair’s Facebook page and website, as well as subscribing to the fair’s newsletter, to learn more as details are finalized.
Bonacio Construction will rehab a pair of city-owned buildings along South and Elm streets and construct a multi-story parking garage as part of the city’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative. The Post Star reports Common Council awarded the project, known as Market Square, to the Saratoga Springs-based construction company after receiving just two responses to a request for qualifications issued back in March.
Warren County Health Services has begun the process to work with school districts and pediatricians to distribute vaccine to 12- to 15-year-olds when final approval is granted.
Permission slips have been sent to parents through participating school districts, and clinics could begin as soon as the end of this week if approval is granted. Parents were asked to review and complete the slips promptly if planning for in-school vaccination.
Robin Mapp is the new manager of the Warren County airport. Mapp said he was attracted to this position because he wanted to move up to a managerial role at a smaller airport. The Post Star reports Mapp, comes to the position from Barbados by way of Portland, Oregon and Aspen, Colorado. He says Warren County is a great community with “gorgeous” weather very similar to Colorado.
