After two years of planning, renovations and pandemic delays , Krantz Cottage is opening its doors this weekend in Lake George. The family retreat, part of Ronald McDonald House Charities, had a ribbon cutting at the former law office of Howard Krantz, the village’s longtime attorney who died in 2015. Organizer say the retreat at 161 Ottawa Street will give sick children and their families a bit of respite as they endure lengthy hospital stays and taxing treatments.

What Some Call The Largest Historic Find In Modern Day History In Lake George
A total of 40 sets of remains of Revolutionary War-era soldiers were uncovered from the site on Courtland Street, according to a Lake George official. The Post Star reports the remains were first discovered in 2019 during digging for an apartment project at the intersection of Courtland and Mohican streets. It’s being called the largest historic find in the modern day history of Lake George.
South Glens Falls Man Cuffed In Unique Shoplifting Incident
State Police in Queensbury arrested Robert J. Felice Jr. of South Glens Falls, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and petit largency. A shoplifter at Tractor Supply in Queensbury reportedly threw a backpack containing over $90.00 of goods over a fence on the property. The man, who was later identified as Robert Felice, had passed all points of sale. Felice was found pushing a dolly of stolen merchandise from Home Depot to his vehicle. The value of the merchandise was over $400.00. Felice was taken into custody.
You Can Now Legally Get Your Hair Cut On Sunday
Barbers in New York can now give a haircut on a Sunday without worrying about breaking the law. Gov. Cuomo signed a bill Tuesday allowing barbershops and salons to operate on Sundays. Rarely enforced, there had been a law on the books making it a misdemeanor to cut hair or provide a shave to another person on Sunday. Cuomo called the measure archaic.
The law takes effect immediately.
Whitehall Man Arrested
State Police in Granville arrested 32-year-old David M. Downing of Whitehall for Criminal Contempt , Criminal Mischief and other charges. State Police responded to a Whitehall residence and saw parked on the lawn of the home with its headlights pointed at the house and the driver honking the horn. They say the man behind the wheel drove off and the vehicle was later found in a ditch. Downing was taken into custody after reporting his vehicle stolen.
Woman Charged In Lake George With DWI
In Lake George, a Bolton woman driving without headlights was charged with driving while intoxicated. Police say 51 year old
Kandi L. Kelley was traveling north on Route 9 when she was stopped in the village by a patrol officer from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. An investigation determined that Kelley was intoxicated. She was charged with DWI and driving without headlights on.
Board Votes To Reinstate Cambridge School District Indian
Just last month, the Cambridge School Board voted to retire the Indian that had been used as both a nickname and logo for the district. This week, in another 3-2 vote, the board voted to reinstate the Indian. In a long meeting, members heard from both sides’ those who feel the Indian image is disrespectful to Native Americans and those who believe it pays tribute to the the Native culture in the community.
GF Road Construction Update
Construction along Dix Avenue in Glens Falls is expected to be completed by September. According to the Post Star,
the $3.7 million project, which includes a complete overhaul of the roadway between Ridge and Platt streets, is currently $159,000 under budget.
Glens Falls Teen Pleads Not Guilty To Injuring 7 Week Old Son
A Glens Falls teen who is accused of injuring his 7-week-old son was in Glens Falls City Court Thursday morning and pleaded not guilty to charges. The Post Star reports Tyler Zaugg is charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The documents go on to say he told the baby’s mother he was giving the baby a bath when he slipped underwater, and she told him to call 911.

The Warren County Health Services vaccine team will be in northern Warren County for a vaccine clinic at a summer camp on Thursday, July 8. Anyone in the Brant Lake or Chestertown area who would like to coordinate a vaccination while the vaccine team is in this area should call Health Services at 518-761-6580. In addition, the New York State mass vaccination site at Aviation Mall in Queensbury continues to offer walk-in availability of Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID vaccines, 7 days a week.
