The state education commissioner says the Cambridge School District has to drop its Indians nickname and imagery by July. WNYT reports The commissioner reversed a decision by the school board to reinstate the nickname, which had been retired last June. The board released a statement saying it’s disappointed with the decision and will thoughtfully review it to determine how to proceed.

Queensbury Mass Vaccination Site Back Open
The state mass vaccination site in Queensbury, N.Y. is back open as of Wednesday to combat the rising COVID-19 infection rate in the area. The location will also provide COVID-19 testing. The Queensbury site will be open each day from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. The site will be open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for testing, and Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for vaccinations. Appointments for vaccinations can be made here. Walk-in appointments will also be available.

Lake George Regional Women for Women in Need (WIN) is holding a holiday party soon, and the deadline for reservations is Dec. 3. Fort Edward Man Arrested On Child Porn Counts
State Police arrested 32-year-old Todd Cleavland of Fort Edward. Cleavland is charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child (D felony) and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child (E felony).
Cleavland is accused of possessing and sharing images consistent with child sexual exploitation via the internet. His arrest followed an investigation stemming from a cyber tip received by the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Lake George Village Buildings Closed To The Public
All Lake George Village buildings including Village Hall and the Visitor Center will be closed to the public effective Monday, November 29, 2021.
Only those with appointments in advance who have been fully vaccinated will be permitted to enter. A drop box by the front door can be utilized for correspondence or payments. Calls can be made to Village Hall at 518-668-5771 x121 if entrance is needed. Village departments will be fully staffed and business hours remain the same except for holidays.
Everyone, including employees, must wear a mask inside all village-owned buildings at all times.
Septic System Inspection Meeting December 2nd
The Warren County Board of Supervisors Environmental Concerns and Real Property Tax Services Committee will re-consider a proposed local law that would require inspection of some septic systems near waterways when a property changes hands. After two public hearings in Lake George and Queensbury, a vote on the proposed local law was not held Friday, with the proposed legislation returned to committee to be re-considered. The committee meets again December 2nd, starting at 9 a.m. The meeting will be held at Warren County Municipal Center.
Washington County Among Top Positive COVID Test Percentages In NY
Coronavirus cases are surging again locally. Sadly, more people are also dying. WNYT reports Washington County is in the top three of positive test percentages in the state. The county’s positivity rate is around 13%. The county says a 45-year-old man who was not vaccinated has died. They also reported 77 new COVID cases in their Tuesday update, and 20 hospitalizations.
Thinking Summer And Camp Pack Forest
DEC announces online registration for DEC’s 2022 Summer Camps program will open Sunday, March 6, 2022, at 1 p.m. To celebrate 75 years, DEC’s Summer Camps program will host a series of events and share mementos. The Summer Camps program offers week-long adventures in conservation education for children ages 11-17. DEC operates four residential camps for children. One is Camp Pack Forest in Warrensburg.
Gov Makes Nourish New York Program Permanent
Governor Kathy Hochul has signed legislation making the Nourish New York program permanent. The signing of this legislation comes just before the Thanksgiving holiday, reaffirming New York’s commitment to providing support to those facing food insecurity across the state. The Nourish New York initiative reroutes New York’s surplus agricultural products to the populations who need them most through the state’s food banks. The program also provides much-needed support for the food producers and farmers who have lost markets as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Spiking COVID Rates In Warren, Washington Counties
Warren and Washington Counties are reporting some of the highest COVID-19 positivity rates. WTEN reports
Warren County Health Services is reporting 82 additional cases on Saturday. They are monitoring 586 active across the county. This is the highest daily active case number the county has seen since the start of the pandemic.
Washington County continues to report the highest positivity rate in New York State. They are reporting an additional 92 positive COVID-19 cases as of Friday. They are reporting two more COVID-related deaths.
