Warren County has received an additional allotment of COVID-19 home test kits, which are being distributed for free through Stewart’s Shops and town halls and Glens Falls City Hall this week, while supplies last.
All Stewart’s shops other than the Broad Street and Glen Street locations in Glens Falls are giving them out.
Staff at Glens Falls City Hall and town halls around the county are handing them out, as are staff at the towns of Queensbury, Warrensburg, Lake Luzerne, Horicon, Stony Creek and Thurman. Residents of towns of Chester, Bolton, Hague and Lake George should check for availability as deliveries occur this week.

Queensbury Proposed Car Wash Getting Some Push Back
The Hoffman Car Wash proposed for 919 state Route 9, near Walmart, won’t be allowed to break ground on the project just yet. According to the Post Star the plans got some pushback from neighbors and town Planning Board members. The 5,750-square-foot car wash building is proposed for the location next to 40 Oak Classic American Grille. Some of the concerns center around increased traffic potential.
COVID Clinic Tuesday
The next Warren County Health Services COVID-19 vaccine clinic is set for Tuesday, February 22, from 4 p.m.to 5:30 p.m. at the Warren County Public Health office at Warren County Municipal Center.
Moderna first dose and booster doses will be available. Registration links can be found on the Warren County Facebook page.
DEC Warns Of Avalanche Risks In Adirondacks
DEC is advising backcountry users in the Adirondacks, especially the High Peaks Region, of potential avalanche and high water risk following mild temperatures, high winds, and rain. Warmer weather and rain will melt existing snowpack, swelling waterways and making water crossings dangerous. High winds and a return to colder temperatures will then result in re-freezing. Avalanche danger increases during thaws and snow becomes increasingly unstable as it undergoes freeze/thaw cycles.
Queensbury Students Pre-Register To Vote
More than 150 Queensbury Union Free School District High School students “pre-registered” to vote this week thanks to what has become an annual Warren County Board of Elections educational program at the high school.
For the third year in a row, Board of Elections staff held two days of “mock elections” at Queensbury High School, while also explaining the voting and registration processes and having voting machines on hand for students to try out.
Board of Elections personnel also had sample ballots for students, and went over the workings of early voting, absentee ballots and military ballots.
Flood Risks Thursday And Friday
Warren County Office of Emergency Services is advising county residents of the potential for flooding Thursday and Friday as rain and warm temperatures raise ice jam risks on local streams and rivers.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Warren County and adjacent counties from 1 p.m. Thursday through 7 p.m. Friday.
Job Fair At Lake George High School
The 2nd annual spring job fair at Lake George High School is just weeks away, (March 16 this year) and Warren County Employment & Training Administration is recruiting businesses that will be in need of staff this spring and summer that would like to meet with local high school students to discuss prospective employment.
Local businesses that hire teen workers are asked to scan the QR code for an “interest form” that can be completed.
Glens Falls Sinkhole Repair
Sandford Street in Glens Falls will be closed on Thursday, for repair work on what the city is calling a major sinkhole. WNYT reports the closure affects the area between Quaker Road and Uncas Street, as the sinkhole is located in front of the Sanford Street pumping station. Residents of Windy Hill and Windy Ridge roads will be able to access their homes, but will have to enter and exit from the west or Ridge Street sides.
Hochul Says COVID Stats Are Headed In Right Direction
Gov. Hochul says New York state has seen a 97% drop in cases since January 7. According to WNYT, there’s also a 72% drop in hospitalizations since the January 12 peak. The 7-day average positivity is below 2.98%, the lowest since November 10th.
Argyle Man Charged In Home Explosives Case
On Monday, Daniel Day, 35, of Argyle pleaded guilty to illegal possession of homemade explosive devices, other firearms, and ammunition. WTEN reports officials said Day, admitted to owning components to create three improvised explosive devices at his home on August 5, 2021. Day also admitted to owning non-registered firearms as required by federal law, including a submachine gun, a sawed-off shotgun, and a 3D-printed pistol without a serial number.
