Cambridge Mascot Debate Plays Out In Court

The state education commissioner’s order to remove Cambridge Central School’s Indian mascot remains in effect while a court reviews the school board’s claim that Commissioner Betty Rosa’s decision annulling one school board vote and reinstating the previous vote was “arbitrary and capricious.” The Post Star reports back in June, the school board voted 3-2 to retire the Indian mascot. Less than a month later, on July 8, with one new member, the board rescinded its previous resolution by the same margin and reinstated the mascot.

Warren County Climate Change Panel Thursday

Warren County Health Services will host a wide-ranging panel discussion Thursday, April 7 on the local impacts of climate change on public health, and the panel of speakers has been set.
The program is open to the public, and will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Queensbury Community Center. The discussion will be livestreamed on Warren County’s YouTube page for those who cannot attend in person, and the video will be archived on this page for viewing later as well.

Lake George Teacher Saluted For Service

A Lake George school teacher was thrown a surprise party late last week to celebrate his 80th birthday. WNYT reports
Don Corsetti has been teaching at Lake George since 1964, fresh out of Plattsburgh State. Technically, he retired in 2000, but he’s substituted nearly every day since. The entire student body, all the faculty, and even former students lined the halls Friday morning as a drum line escorted “Mr. C.” into the auditorium to honor his 58 years of service.

State Lawmakers Hope To Wrap Up Budget Monday

State lawmakers and Gov. Kathy Hochul missed the April 1 state budget deadline. The final spending plan was due by midnight on March 31. The Sun Community News reports If the budget is not completed by 4 p.m. Monday, April 4, Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli warned two weeks ago that they would not be able to “complete paycheck distribution and release of direct deposit funds and advices” for state employees, though the State University of New York, City University of New York and the State Insurance Fund would not be affected due to the start date of their fiscal year in June.

Police Release More Info On Pharmacy Robber

Glens Falls Police now describing the suspect in a Sunday burglarly attempt at the Walgreens pharmacy on Broad Street as white, 5’10”, and wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white sneakers, a dark colored baseball hat and dark colored gloves. Police say he walked into the place, went to the back of the store, took items from the pharmacy and ran out.

The Glens Falls Police Civil Service Open Competitive Exam is scheduled for September 18th / 19th, 2021. The filing deadline to be eligible to take the exam is August 12th, 2021.

Clean Up, Repairs After Recent Flooding At Ho Jo Motel In Lake George

Howard Johnson’s motel at 99 Canada St. was flooded recently for the second time in 31 days. The Sun Community News reports Mayor Robert Blais told the board members that the floodwaters were up to five feet deep in the lower-level first-floor motel rooms. The flooding was prompted by both heavy rainstorms and runoff from melting snow in the prior days. The owner has agreed to reimburse the village for costs incurred when floodwaters on the property overwhelmed the village’s sanitary sewer pump stations.

Queensbury Man Cuffed For Alleged Drug Dealing

A Queensbury man has been arrested for allegedly selling narcotics. WTEN reports the Warren County Sheriff’s Office arrested 55 year old Corby Crandall Tuesday. Authorities say during a controlled drug buy operation, Crandall allegedly sold crack cocaine to another person. Crandall was arraigned in Warren County Court. He was remanded to the Warren County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Climate Change Forum In Queensbury Next Month

Warren County Health Services will hold a forum Thursday, April 7 on the impact climate change has had and will continue to have on public health. The event is free to attend, and will be held at Queensbury Community Center at 742 Bay Road in Queensbury, starting at 6 p.m. It will feature numerous Warren County staff members as well as local and regional experts.
Warren County Health Services has arranged for livestreaming and videotaping of this event for those who can not attend in person.
