Warren County’s longtime Parks and Recreation Director, Tim Benway, retired last month, and the county is seeking applicants to replace him. The person hired will lead a department that oversees county parks, trail systems, canoe/kayak launches and Warren County Fish Hatchery’s great trout stocking program and Up Yonda Farm, Environmental Education Center. The starting salary is $71,585.

Cambridge Removing Indian From School Campus

Drive around Cambridge and you’ll notice The Indian is vanishing from the Cambridge Central School campus. The Post Star reports The Eastern Woodlands warrior profile was on full display during the Class of 2022’s commencement ceremony June 24, but custodial staff began a cover-up early the following week after the district was ordered to do so by the state.

August Court Date For Motorcyclist In Deadly Lake George Crash

August 13th is the next court date for 33 year old Anthony Futia of of Albany, the motorcyclist accused of killing two pedestrians after crashing into them Lake George. He’s been indicted on 13 charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, in connection with the June 12 motorcycle crash in Lake George that took the lives of 8-year-old Quinton Delgadillo, a third grader at Lake George Elementary School, and 38-year-old James Persons, according to the Post Star.

Man Charged In Deadly Lake George Motorcycle Crash Arraigned

The Albany man accused of driving a motorcycle into a group of people in Lake George – killing two of them – was arraigned Tuesday. WNYT reports Anthony Futia appeared virtually from Albany Medical Center Tuesday afternoon, where he’s been treated since the crash that killed James Persons and 8-year-old Quinton Delgadillo.

Troy Man Busted In Queensbury For DWI

A Troy man is facing DWI charges after alleged drunken driving in Queensbury on the Fourth of July. WNYT reports 22-year-old Ethan Sheraw was pulled over just before 4:30 Monday afternoon on Route 9 in Queensbury for allegedly passing vehicles illegally. Sheraw was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI after a breath test.

Lake George Packed For July 4th Weekend

Lake George was packed over the weekend , filled with visitors and culminating Monday night with fireworks. Staff at the Lake George Chamber’s office reported seeing cars backed up all the way to where the road starts, branching off Route 9. WTEN reports the 4th of July weekend is a significant benchmark to track when getting an idea of how the summer is unfolding. Some hotels and accommodations around the village were offering last-minute open rooms, but many – along with just about every local Airbnb and Vrbo rental – were full.

Fundraiser For Lake George’s Smallest Library

The Mountainside Free Library on the east side of Lake George is set to host its annual “Book, Bake and Bauble” sale this weekend. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, the tiny library at Dunham’s Bay will get the support it needs to stay open for all. According to WTEN, on Saturday, a short ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. to unveil a new plaque marking a historic occasion. The library was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Warren County Administrator Stepping Down

Warren County Administrator Ryan Moore is stepping down. According to WNYT, Moore says he plans to return to the private sector to pursue another opportunity. He has served as county administrator since 2018. Moore’s last day will be August 2.

Whitehall Man Facing Drug Counts

A Washington County man is facing charges, after police say he tried throwing away meth and a smoking device into the water after police went to arrest him on other charges. The Post Star reports Walter Rouse of Whitehall is charged with felony drug possession with intent to sell, and tampering with physical evidence. Police say they had other active warrants out for Rouse.
