Glens Falls Fire & Ice Event Pushed Back

The City of Glens Falls has decided to postpone the Fire & Ice event that was set to begin on Friday. Organizers expressed concerns over the warmer winter temperatures and the thickness of the ice on Crandall Pond. WTEN reports despite colder temperatures on the radar this week, organizers worry that the ice thickness may still not be safe and will continue to monitor conditions and set sights on beginning Fire & Ice on February 10.

Bolton Receiving Grant Money For Local Waterfront Revitalization

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that over $22 million has been awarded to support 21 projects across New York State through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. The Town of Bolton is receiving $1.7 million to advance its Local Waterfront Revitalization Program by designing and constructing the second phase of the Veterans Memorial Park Master Plan. Improvements include a new multi-use waterfront recreation building which will house visitor information services and accommodate special events throughout the year, pedestrian access connections into the park, and stormwater
management improvements for continued water quality protection of Lake George.

Greenwich Gets Piece Of State Economic Development Funding

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that over $22 million has been awarded to support 21 projects across New York State through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. The Town of Greenwich in a joint effort with the Village of Greenwich intends to complete predevelopment activities to advance zoning code amendments and analyze infrastructure
upgrades to further the redevelopment of the Greenwich Brownfield Opportunity Area. Challenges
to be addressed include: inconsistencies between the BOA Plan and existing zoning and review and
revision of existing parking requirements.

UPDATE: Lake George Ice Castles Planning To Open February 6th

In Lake George, Ice Castles opens Monday, February 6. The Warren County Facebook page reports the weather didn’t get cold enough fast enough to open in time for the next weekend., but by Monday, Feb 6 – they will be ready for customers. In the meantime, our Polar Pub and light walk will be free to visit the nights of Friday, Feb 3 and Saturday, Feb 4 while they finalize the castle.

Lake George Ice Castles Eyeing Friday Open

In Lake George, the ice castles are still slated to open this coming Friday. WNYT repoirts warmer than average weather has forced ice castles in Lake George to postpone the start of its season, but operators opened part of the attraction this past weekend to the public for free as people got a preview of the mystic lake trail and new polar ice bar.

Online Sales For Day Use At Lake George Islands

DEC has announced a transition to automated, online sales for all-day use permits for the Lake George Islands. Previously, visitors had to access island headquarters via boat to purchase their permits. WTEN reports online sales are expected to begin on May 12, seven days before the opening of the Lake George Islands campgrounds. Bookings can be made as early as seven days before the day of arrival and as late as the same day depending on availability. The total fee for a day-use permit is $12.

Queensbury UFSD Wants Names For Athletics Hall Of Fame

Queensbury Union Free School District has put out the call for former athletes, coaches and others connected to its school sports to submit their information for the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame. In creating the inaugural class lineup for the hall of fame, the district is seeking graduates who finished their time at Queensbury no later than the year 2000.

New App To Keep Residents Informed In Warren County

A new app in Warren County will help keep people informed during emergencies. According to WNYT, it’s called the “Ready Warren County NY App,” and allows the Office of Emergency Services staff to send push notifications about emergencies, and things like water or ice pick-up spots during power outages. The app is free, and can be downloaded in the Apple and Google App stores.

Johnsburg Town Supervisor To Resign

Johnsburg Town Supervisor Andrea Hogan, who has been in office for five years, announced Jan. 17 that she will be resigning in mid-February rather than at the end of this year, as she has previously planned. Sun Community News reports Hogan made the surprise announcement during the Johnsburg Town Board’s Jan. 17 meeting.
