Study Looks At Feasibility Of Johnsburg, Minerva Schools Merger

The feasibility study report evaluating the proposed merger of Johnsburg and Minerva School districts has several dozen recommendations. Sun Community News reports although the report doesn’t specifically endorse the merger, its conclusions cite advantages of consolidation, considering the continued shrinking enrollment of both school districts and the aims of maintaining high academic standards and a wide variety of courses and extracurricular activities at a reasonable cost to the two school districts.

Bolton CSD Superintendent To Retire

Bolton Central School District Superintendent Michael Graney reflected this week on his 30-year career in education, days after announcing his retirement from his present post. Sun Community News reports Graney started his employment at Bolton Central in January 2013 as principal, then was promoted to the Superintendent position 18 months later.

Warren County Jury Finds NYC Man Guilty In Weapons Case

A Warren County jury delivered a guilty verdict on Tuesday for a Manhattan man possessing a handgun during a traffic stop in Queensbury on Dec. 14, 2023. WTEN reports 29 year old Novashawn Bannister was convicted of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison if considered a persistent felon.

Eight Bridges In Warren County In Bad Shape, Says Comptroller

A new report released by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli looks at the condition of local bridges throughout New York. The report found that although the state as a whole has seen an improvement in the condition of local bridges, many are still in poor condition. Eight spans in Warren County are cited, including four in Johnsburg. The bridge carrying Route 10 to River Road in Warrensburg dates back to 1896.

Human Trafficking Discussion In Queensbury

A local coalition organized to confront the region’s human trafficking problems will bring together experts for a panel discussion focused on what can be done locally to address the trafficking problem that exists.
Lower Adirondack Alliance for Freedom, a public-private partnership that includes Warren County agencies as well as local non-profits, leaders and businesses, will hold the event at The Queensbury Hotel, starting at 10 a.m. August8th. Skills Workshops In Warren County

The Warren County Department of Workforce Development and Career Center, in partnership with Capital Region Career Centers, is planning several skills workshops for August. The workshops will allow individuals to expand their workforce knowledge by acquiring transferrable skills, learning about networking, and more.

Queensbury Woman Charged With Illegally Receiving SNAP Overpayment

A Queensbury woman was arrested Monday by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office on three charges. Kira Walker, 31, faces a grand larceny charge, amongst others, from an incident that began on August 1, 2023. The Warren County Department of Social Services had found that Walker failed to disclose financial information on two Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (SNAP) benefit forms in August 2023 and February 2024. This resulted in Walker receiving $4,008 in benefits as an overpayment, which she would not have been eligible for otherwise.

Warren County Seeks Info On Storm Damage

Warren County is asking property owners to report their damage from last week’s tornadoes and severe thunderstorms as Warren County Office of Emergency Services works to see if financial aid for individuals is feasible.

Funding Assistance For Home-Based Child Care Centers

Southern Adirondack Child Care Network (SACCN) has joined forces with Warren County Department of Workforce Development to administer a new program that provides funding and assistance with training to open new home-based childcare centers. DEC Assessing Backcountry Storm Impacts

DEC has issued a backcountry advisory for the Adirondacks as DEC continues to evaluate storm impacts that could affect public safety. DEC is assessing roads and state facilities in the region damaged by flooding and other storm impacts.
DEC staff have completed many repairs and debris clearing at state facilities, but visitors should be prepared for minor inconveniences while repairs continue.
