Answers To Questions About Recycling

Figuring out which materials can be recycled and which should be thrown away is not always easy. To help county residents make those decisions, Warren County Department of Public Works has unveiled an online tool that will take a lot of the guessing out of the process for residents who want to do the right thing for the environment.
Warren County has added an online tool known as “Waste Wizard” at https://warrencountyny.gov/DPW/SolidWaste) to the county website, an easy-to-use search bar that will quickly give residents answers about whether a material can be recycled or tossed.

Washington County Gun Shop Targeted Again By Thieves

A gun shop in Washington County has been broken into again. According to WNYT, the break-in happened at Calamity Jane’s in Kingsbury just before 2 a.m. Monday. A 15-year-old suspect was caught running from the scene. Police recovered 14 handguns and various boxes of ammunition. More than 30 guns were stolen from the same store back in October. At least 11 people were arrested with that initial burglary.

Two Household Hazardous Waste Events For Warren County

Registration is open for household hazardous waste collection events in Warren County
Warren County Department of Public Works has scheduled two household hazardous waste collection events for 2023, and registration has opened for Warren County residents who would like to get rid of hazardous materials such as cleaners and pesticides.
The first collection event is set for Saturday, April 22nd, 2023 at Warren County Department of Public Works, 4028 Main Street, Warrensburg.
The second is scheduled for Saturday, August 26th, 2023 at Queensbury Highway Department, 742 Bay Road, Queensbury.

Child Care Questionnaire

Warren County Department of Social Services wants families to know about a new Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) Eligibility Questionnaire that is available to parents and caretakers.
The Eligibility Questionnaire allows parents and caretakers to answer a few questions to see if they are eligible for CCAP. There are three sections to the tool; child eligibility, activity eligibility, and financial eligibility.

South Glens Falls Considers Summer Concert Series Tweaks

In an attempt to attract a “less mature” crowd, the South Glens Falls Chamber of Commerce is proposing a change-up in the village’s summer concert series. The Post Star reports they’re looking into possibly having their summer concert series on Saturdays, and looking into the possibility of food trucks Trustees have been asked for their input on the proposal.

HomeToGo recently released its 2023 U.S. Summer Travel Forecast. Responses from a vacation survey put out by the website reported that 72% of vacationers are prioritizing relaxation over excitement when planning their next trip. Lake George was one of four locations listed for that kind of getaway. The Lake George area was listed as seeing a 59% uptick in searches year over year by prospective vacationers. The survey cited lodging prices in the region as averaging out around $113 per night per person.

Open Enrollment Help In Warren County

Health insurance open enrollment is still available for some, and Warren County Department of Social Services is making it easier for residents to apply through the New York State of Health program by bringing insurance experts to the Warren County Municipal Center on Friday, April 21, 2023.
Warren County is hosting”Street Side” events where representatives of Fidelis can answer questions and assist with enrollment, renewal or any queries regarding any health plans offered by NY State.

Queensbury Man Pleads Guilty To Violating Protection Order

A Queensbury man is facing prison time after pleading guilty to violating an order of protection while on parole for committing the same crime in Washington County. The Post Star reports 34 year old Gary L. Carpenter admitted in Warren County Court on Wednesday that he violated an order of protection and “physically restrained” a woman with whom he shares a child in a hotel room on Christmas Day 2022.

Warren County reports the deadline to apply for Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program applications has been extended until April 28, 2023.
You may be eligible for an Emergency HEAP benefit if:
* Your electricity is necessary for your heating system or thermostat to work and is either shut-off or scheduled to be shut off or
* Your electric or natural gas heat is off or scheduled to be shut-off or
* You are out of fuel, or you have less than one quarter tank of fuel oil, kerosene or propane or have less than a ten (10) day supply of wood, wood pellets, corn, or other deliverable heat source.
