A North Carolina man is raising money for his beloved childhood YMCA by swimming the length of Lake George next week.
WRGB reports 56-year-old Scott Cotten’s potential 32-mile swim he’ll be raising money particularly for the Silver Bay Y’s program that teaches kids how to swim. He points to the fact that while Lake George has plenty of private access to the water, it has limited public spots.

GFPD Investigates Driveway Sealer Dump In Crandall Park
The Glens Falls Police Department is investigating the dumping of what is believed to be a substantial amount of driveway sealer in Crandall Park. A trail of sealer was found running along the ground near the community picnic pavilion, just south of the park’s playground. WTEN reports police are looking for a suspect believed to have visited the area between 7:30 and 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The person is described as a white male wearing a straw hat, seen driving a blue pickup truck with a white tailgate carrying large drums.
Follow Up Information On Northway Crash
New information on a crash involving several cars on the Northway in Warren County. Police say it started when one car was rear-ended and became disabled in the middle of the road, then two more cars crashed, trying to avoid that car. Then came a third crash, as more drivers tried to avoid the pile-up. One car went completely over the rail.
Luckily, many escaped with only minor injuries, police said.
Fire Early Tuesday Destroys Lake George Home
A fire in the early morning hours of Tuesday destroyed a home in the Town of Lake George. WRGB reports Lake George Fire Chief Brandon Combs says no injuries were reported, but a dog was lost in the fire that destroyed the care taker’s home at the Wild West Ranch. The one-story home that is now a complete loss. The cause may have been propane related.
Greenwich Man Facing Rape Charges
A man is facing rape charges in Washington County. According to WNYT, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Matthew Moses of Greenwich, who’s accused of raping a girl under the age of 17 over the course of more than a year. He was arraigned and remanded to the Washington County Jail.
Missing Warren County Man Found Safely
75 year old Kenneth White, reported missing in Warren County has been located safely. State Police had reached out to the public for help after he was last seen on August 5th in Glens Falls and was believed to be in the Lake Luzerne area. No word on where White was found.
Fort Edward Woman Gets Probation In DWI Plea
A Fort Edward woman was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty in Warren County Court to a felony driving while intoxicated charge. 27 year old Holly Bader was pulled over on Feb. 10 at around 1 a.m. on Upper Sherman Avenue. The Post Star reports Bader was found to be intoxicated and subsequently arrested. At the police station, Bader submitted to a chemical breath test which yielded a 0.20% blood alcohol content — more than twice the legal limit.
Northway Stretch Back Open After Monday Crash
A stretch of the Northway in Warren County has reopened after a big accident Monday morning caused it to shut down between Exits 22 and 23. Authorities say two commercial vehicles crashed around 11 a.m. and there were multiple secondary crashes as a result. No significant injuries have been reported. Police continue to investigate a cause.
Washington County DA Releases New Info In Gillis Shooting Death
The Washington County District Attorney has filed new information related to the shooting death of Kaylin Gillis of Schuylerville. WNYT reports Tony Jordan spells out in the clearest terms yet why his office believes Kevin Monahan is guilty of the depraved indifference murder of Gillis. This filing is the district attorney’s response to a defense motion to dismiss many of the charges against Monahan.
Six Flags Retiring Alpine Bobsled
At the end of the summer, Six Flags Great Escape is retiring an Olympic-scale venerated ride. It’s the Alpine Bobsled’s 25th and final season in use. The Olympics-inspired ride will take its final run on Monday, Sept. 4. The ride functions as a trackless roller coaster, sending riders through a themed toboggan half-pipe at a top speed of 35 miles per hour.
