DEC and DMV reminding drivers to be aware that deer and moose are most active and more likely to enter public roadways this time of year, as they search for mates during their breeding season, which is the months of October, November and December. According to the University at Albany’s Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research, in 2022, 41.5 percent of the crashes between deer and vehicles occurred during this three-month span.

School Districts Across The State Targeted With Swatting Incidents
Governor Kathy Hochul says 10 school districts across Western New York, the Capital Region, Central New York, Long Island, the Southern Tier and the North Country received swatting threats Wednesday morning. Hochul says she has directed the New York State Police to investigate the threats and work closely with all levels of law enforcement to identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable.
Whitehall Man Charged In Stabbing
A Whitehall resident has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a man. Miguel Medrano-Garcia, 27, is accused of assaulting a man with the weapon. The victim was attempting to intervene in a domestic dispute Medrano-Garcia was having on Broadway in the village of Whitehall, according to WNYT. The victim was treated at Glens Falls Hospital for his injuries.
Glens Falls Man Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Tow Truck
A Glens Falls man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly using a stolen car to steal a tow truck. WNYT reports State Police said that Dakotah R. McNabb, 19, stole a tow truck from a business on Route 9 in Moreau Tuesday morning. Police also learned that McNabb had driven a vehicle stolen from the city of Glens Falls earlier in the day and left the vehicle parked there before taking the truck. Glens Falls Police found McNabb driving the tow truck and arrested him.
Kelly’s Angels Scholarships Extending To Lake George High School
Kelly’s Angels, the prominent Capital Region charity, has extended its practice of granting annual scholarships to include Lake George High School. Sun Community News reports with the expansion from 10 to 12 area schools, Kelly’s Angels’ scholarship program will bestow two $1,500 scholarships to 24 graduating seniors, including two scholarships to Lake George students, a female and a male senior, beginning in 2024
Report: Pilot Programs To Reduce Roadway Salt Use In Adirondacks
DOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez says the agency is evaluating new areas within the Adirondack Park to conduct salt reduction pilot programs this coming winter. Sun Community News reports each pilot study would carry through two winter seasons with a goal to “establish minimum standards for salt application policies and practices that all municipal winter management operations (state, county, town, village) should follow throughout the park.”
Queensbury Man Sentenced In Knifepoint Robbery
A Queensbury man was sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to a knifepoint robbery. WRGB reports 36 year old Justin M. Cabral pled guilty to felony first-degree robbery, for the knifepoint robbery of a clerk at the Speedway gas station on Aviation Road in Queensbury on the morning of fourth of July. A judge sentenced Cabral, a prior felon, to 13 years in State prison, with five years of parole after his release.
Whitehall Man Accused Of Injuring 7 Year Old
A Whitehall man is accused of injuring a 7-year-old during a domestic incident. WNYT reports 27 year old Joshua M. Slingerland was charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
The arrest followed a joint investigation between the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Child Protective Services. The incident took place on Oct. 6.
Warrensburg Won’t Acquire Streetlights From National Grid
A longstanding plan for the Warrensburg town government to acquire ownership of the town’s 495 streetlights from electric utility provider National Grid has been abandoned, Town Supervisor Kevin Geraghty announced at the town board’s Oct. 11 meeting. The Sun Community News reports the pending initiative to convert the streetlights from sodium vapor lamps to efficient LED fixtures will continue to be pursued.
Early Voting In Warren County
Warren County Board of Elections has announced that early voting will begin Saturday, Oct. 28, at two locations in Warren County for the Nov. 7 General Election. Early voters will be able to cast ballots at Warren County Human Services Building, 1340 Rte. 9 in Queensbury, and Glens Falls City Hall, 42 Ridge St., in Glens Falls. Any voter registered in Warren County can vote at an early voting site, and no appointments are necessary
