Queensbury Recycling Center Set To Close
A Queensbury center that recycles bottles and cans is announcing they’re closing at the end of the month. WNYT reports redemption centers across the state are closing because the fee they make – which is set by the Legislature –has stalled at 3 ½¢ cents per bottle or can since 2009, and that’s the scenario facing MT Returnables, which will shut down November 30th without an increase.
Lake Luzerne Man Faces Child Assault Charges
Lake Luzerne man was arrested on Tuesday after he assaulted his infant child. WNYT reports 36 year old
Robert Rivers ischarged with first-degree assault, reckless assault of a child and endangering the welfare of a child. At about 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday an infant was brought to Glens Falls Hospital with suspicious life-threatening injuries. The investigation determined that Rivers’ actions were reckless and caused a severe injury. The infant was transported to Albany Medical Center and remains in critical condition.
Argyle Man Facing Child Sexual Exploitation Charges
State Police of Greenwich arrested 19 year old Allen W. Jameson of Argyle, NY, for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and Aggravated Harassment. Jameson is accused of promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation. In addition, he reportedly sent a threatening message to a law enforcement agent. His arrest followed an investigation and the execution of a search warrant at his home in Argyle Wednesday.
Warrensburg Has Law Pending Tackling Poultry Property Regulations
A pending local law regulating raising poultry and other fowl on residential properties in the Town of Warrensburg will likely be bridging a divide between some people raising chickens and their neighbors. Sun Community News reports provisions limiting six chickens per homeowner, requirements for fencing, and specifications for chicken coops and their placement have been dropped, however the mandate that people must not let their chickens leave their yards remains in the ordinance, along with a ban on roosters in the Warrensburg hamlet. Outside the hamlet, roosters are permitted.
Heating Assistance Applications Available Starting Wednesday
The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance announced home heating assistance applications are available starting November 1 throughout the state. According to ODTA’s press release, the Home Energy Assistance Program can provide low and middle income households up to $976 this winter to keep homes warm at a lower cost.
Glens Falls Bagels Closed TFN
Glens Falls Bagels is closed as of Tuesday, and will remain so until further notice. The Saratoga Avenue bagel shop announced the closure on Facebook on Tuesday morning. WTEN reports the owner posted that a relaunch date and grand opening is to come. Glens Falls Bagels opened in South Glens Falls over the summer, at the plaza at 131 Saratoga Ave.
Sentence Handed Out In Crash That Killed Retired Glens Falls Teacher
A Moreau man was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison for leaving the scene of a crash that killed a retired Glens Falls teacher. WNYT reports John Lincoln-Lynch struck Paul Trombley on Main Street in South Glens Falls on Feb. 27, 2022. Lincoln Lynch, 57, had pleaded guilty on Sept. 12 to leaving the scene of an incident without reporting death just as jury selection was getting under way.
Historic Warrensburg Building Draws Bid At Foreclosure Auction
A historic building at 3885 Main St. in Warrensburg that was the home of prominent community members, as well as a law office, and most recently an antique shop, prompted a successful bid in Warren County’s tax foreclosure auction held Saturday, Oct. 21. Sun Community News reports the top bid for this 3,664 square feet residence with a two-story porch and a stone foundation on one-third of an acre was $86,000 although it has a published full market value of $209,200.
CDTA Signage Going Up On GGFT Routes
If you take the bus from Glens Falls to Lake George, or Hudson Falls to Fort Edward, you may notice some new signage up at your usual stop. Those changes are the first in a big shift for Greater Glens Falls Transit. WTEN reports the Capital District Transit Authority has been placing its own stop signs at bus stops along GGFT routes, as part of an ongoing effort to merge the management of routes together.
