Whitehall Police Make Arrest In Child Sex Abuse Case

State Police of Wilton along with Whitehall Police arrested 23 year old Sean T. Devernoe, of Middle Grove for rape and sexual abuse on May 15. After investigation with the Whitehall Police Department, Troopers say it was found that Devernoe had sexual contact with a child under age 17 in June 2023 while located in Wilton and Saratoga Springs.

Deadly Crash In White Creek Under Investigation

State Police in Greenwich are investigating a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning that killed two people. WRGB reports shortly after 6 a.m., troopers responded to a two-car crash on State Route 22, just south of Grandma Moses Road.
One vehicle was driven by Tricia A. Daigneault, 29, of Hoosick Falls, and the other was driven by Shumeka A. Mentor, 39, of Albany. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Asylum Seekers Evacuated From Rotterdam Hotel

The asylum seekers at the Rotterdam Super 8 were evacuated around midnight Wednesday after it was determined the property had no fire alarm or sprinkler system protection. WTEN reports they were taken by bus to the Ramada hotel in Albany. Officials said it’s just one of six hotels the Rotterdam asylum seekers were taken to. The migrants from New York City arrived at the Super 8 hotel in Rotterdam nearly a year ago.

School Bus Crash In Greenwich

A school bus crashed on Eddy Street in GreenwichThursday morning. WNYT reports there were 20 students on the bus at the time. Two students and the driver were taken by ambulance for medical evaluation. Two more students went with their parents to be evaluated. All have been released with minor injuries. The Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department is handling the investigation.

Vigil Held For Whitehall Girl Killed In Fire

A tribute was held to honor the life of fourth grader Airyonna Jabot. Dozens of people gathered on Tuesday at Whitehall Elementary School to hold balloons and to mourn the loss of the young girl. WRGB reports Airyonna was tragically killed in a fire at her Maple Street home. The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.

Glens Falls Man Arrested For Parole Violation

A Glens Falls man has been arrested following a parole investigation. WTEN reports 35 year old Gordon Wilhelm is accused of interfering with a GPS monitoring system issued and owned by the New York State Division of Parole. He was taken into custody on an arrest warrant on May 3. Upon being located by police, Wilhelm was reportedly found to be in possession of cocaine and crack cocaine, as well as suboxone strips and a scale.

A Look At Lake George School District Budget

Lake George School District officials have drafted a budget with total expenditures of $25.47 million, a 2.66 percent increase; and a tax levy of $22.03 million, representing a 2.69 percent increase. Sun Community News reports the budget draws on $617,077 in fund balance and reserves, a decrease from 2023-24. The spending plan calls for some facility upgrades and the elimination of eight staff positions. On the ballot will be four propositions related to borrowing up to $160,000 to acquire an electric-powered school bus.

Free Wildflower Seed Giveaway In Warren County

The Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District is giving out free wildflower seeds to encourage pollinator habitats. Landowners who take part can convert lawn into pollinator habitats for the next three to five years as part of the Pledge a Plot for Pollinators program. WTEN reports residents can register for the program online through the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District website. Seeds can be picked up on Friday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 394 Schroon River Road in Warrensburg.

Six Flags Great Escape To Open Doors Saturday

Six Flags Great Escape is opening its doors for the 2024 season on Saturday, May 18. The theme park will be showcasing this year’s new improvements and additions. WTEN reports The theme park will be open on the weekends and a few dates until June 19 when daily operations are set to begin.

Monday Rollover Crash In Kingsbury

A Gansevoort man was injured after a rollover crash in Washington County Monday involving a truck loaded with stone. WTEN reports the Washington County sheriff said the driver was on Route 4 in the town of Kingsbury when he lost control of the semi-truck and trailer, overcorrected and rolled over. The driver was taken to Glens Falls Hospital with minor injuries.
