Unit Management Plan For Lake George Battlefield Park

The finalization of an amendment to the Unit Management Plan (UMP) for Lake George Battlefield Park was celebrated late last week, enabling the construction of six above-ground columbarium structures within the Battlefield Park to store funeral urns. Sun Community News reports DEC announced the plan amendment at a ‘Hallowing of the Ground’ ceremony in the Village of Lake George ahead of the reinterment of remains from Revolutionary War era soldiers discovered on Courtland Street in 2019. 

Fatal Crash Sunday In Granville

State Police report that at about 9:29 a.m. they responded to a one-car crash at the New Boston Road and Staddard Road intersection in Granville. One person has been confirmed dead due to the crash, according to police, while another person was airlifted with serious injuries. No indication as yet what lead to the accident.

Fire At Whitehall Meat Processing Plant

The cause of a massive fire at a meat processing plant in Whitehall is now under investigation. WNYT reports the fire broke out at Champlain Beef on Route 4 on Saturday morning. Different fire companies rushed to the scene to try to save the business. No word on a cause.

Grant To Protect Hemlock Trees In Lake George Champlain Basin

The Lake Champlain Lake George Regional Planning Board (LCLGRPB) has secured a $108,000 grant from the Lake Champlain Basin Program to develop a unified understanding and approach to protect hemlock trees in the Lake George Watershed that are threatened by hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA). Sun Community News reports hemlock trees are one of the most common trees found throughout the Lake George watershed.

Residents across the district submitted nominations for women they deemed worthy of recognition for their outstanding achievements and dedication to their communities.

Glens Falls Looks To Crack Down On Dangerous Bike Riders

The Glens Falls mayor and police chief are asking for the public’s help to crack down on dangerous bicycle riders that are running into city traffic. According to WNYT, there were two calls in February about dangerous bicycle riding in Glens Falls. Then, those numbers ballooned to 13 in March and 12 in April. There were two arrests that month including one adult and one juvenile.

Dr. Joseph Warren Exhibit Leaving Warren County

The Warren County Historical Society was informed by their partner in the formerly proposed Joseph Warren Museum project, Shane Newell, that he will be transferring his prized collection of Dr. Joseph Warren paintings and memorabilia to Hillsdale College’s Blake Center for Faith and Freedom in Somers, Conn., this week. Sun Community News reports he expects to have his collection move on to Boston by 2027 for display as part of the nation’s 250th commemoration of the American Revolution.

Make-A-Wish For Whitehall Teen

Make-A-Wish Northeast New York has announced that it will be granting a wish for a local teen in Whitehall. Autumn Emond is a 17-year-old girl with a genetic heart condition and her wish is to have a “she-shed.” WTEN reports on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be a painting party at the she-shed to celebrate the official granting of Autumn’s wish.

Wanted Whitehall Man Captured

A Whitehall man who is wanted in connection with a gang assault has been captured. WNYT reports State Police posted on social media that they had caught 24 year old Dylan Scoville who allegedly attacked a person inside their home in Whitehall in May 30. Also arrested in that case is Jessica Cleavland, 42, and a 17-year-old.

Amtrak Adirondack Reservation System Suspended Until September

The reservation system to book Amtrak Adirondack line tickets from Saratoga Springs to Montreal has been suspended until early September. The line was suspended for 40 miles of track repairs, and Amtrak planned to relaunch the line by the end of June. WTEN reports the repairs that are being made in Canada were originally expected to take six weeks.
