Investigation Into Shepard Park Drowning

The investigation continues into a drowning at Shepard Park Beach in Lake George. A person on shore spotted three people in the water, one of whom appeared to be in distress. The onlooker went into the water and brought the person out with the help of other bystanders. CPR was given to the 65 year old man from the Bronx and he was taken to Glens Falls Hospital for treatment and pronounced dead several ours later.

Lake George Football Won’t Merge With Other School

After players threatened to boycott the high school football program, the Lake George district’s school board reversed its decision on merging its team with the Corinth school district. The Times Union reports at a meeting this week, members unanimously voted to drop the merger, saying they are listening to students and parents who didn’t support the plan, which was approved in December without input from students, parents and coaches.

Lake George Plans To Talk Pot Sales

The Village of Lake George has plans to hold an informational meeting in September to get the public’s input on whether the village should allow recreational marijuana sales. The Post Star reports municipalities aren’t forced to go along with the legalized sale of pot in retail shops. The mayor says he has heard from a couple of businesses that want to, and has also heard opposition to the notion.

Fighting Adelgids In Trees On Lake George

The state is treating the trees on Lake George, and in addition to applying and injecting insecticides on the trees, the DEC is coordinating the introduction of three new species on Lake George, all of them bugs that love to eat hemlock wooly adelgids.
The adelgids are all females that reproduce asexually. They colonize hemlock branches. Adults insert their mouthparts into the hemlock twigs, indirectly killing the buds.

Warren County Health Vaccinated 242 In Schools Monday

The Warren County Health Services visited numerous school districts Monday for second shot clinics for 12 to 15-year-olds who received Pfizer vaccines last month. Additional second shot clinics are planned this week in schools to finish up the school vaccination programs that resulted in 242 in-school vaccinations.
For the public to get vaccinated this week, the New York State mass vaccination site at Aviation Mall in Queensbury continues to offer walk-in availability of Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID vaccines

Fireworks Helping Lake George Return To Pre-Pandemic Landscape

Weekly fireworks displays are returning to the Village of Lake George for summer 2021. According to the Lake George Examiner, the Village is celebrating Independence Day with the first fireworks show being held on Sunday, July 4. The fireworks schedule continues with shows each Thursday, beginning July 8 and ending September 2. A special show is planned for Saturday, September 18.

More COVID Rules Will Lift When First Doses Hit 70%

New York will lift more COVID-19 rules once 70% of adults have at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, a target that Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday he hoped the state could reach in days. About 68.7% of New York adults have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the latest federal data. A smaller percentage of New York’s overall 20 million residents have received at least one dose: so far, 56% — or 11 million residents.

County Gauging Internet Service With Survey

Warren County EDC and Warren County have reopened their survey to gauge internet service around the county.
Getting data on service levels is important to determine where and how to improve broadband service around the county.
They’re seeking feedback from those in towns with large numbers of seasonal homeowners, particularly Lake Luzerne and Hague.

Queensbury Hotel Expansion Plans Approved

The Queensbury Hotel’s executives are hoping to break ground on a ballroom extension later this year, now that the city’s Planning Board has approved plans for the project. The Post Star reports the 5,200-square-foot expansion will allow the venue to host larger wedding receptions and attract events previously off limits due to capacity restrictions.
