Free Fishing Weekend Upcoming

Governor Cuomo announced Monday that Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27, is a Free Fishing Weekend in New York State, the second of six Free Fishing Days recognized across the state each year.
During designated free fishing days, New York residents and non-residents are permitted to fish for free without a fishing license. Participating anglers are reminded that although the requirement for a fishing license is waived during free fishing days, all other fishing regulations remain in effect.

NY Announces Camper Loyalty/Reward Program

DEC has announced the first-ever Camper Loyalty/Reward Program for overnight stays at state campgrounds across New York. The introduction of the new Loyalty program coincides with the opening of the nine-month online reservation window for the 2022 Camping Season. The new Loyalty program will allow visitors to earn points for every dollar spent on overnight accommodations and redeem the points toward use fees on future stays. Points are awarded upon departure for all camping stays, so campers can earn points on already-booked reservations and any new reservations as soon as they enroll in the program, either online or by phone. For convenience, the user-friendly program is applied to the account without the need for a physical card

The SLEEP Act In New York

If you’ve ever been rattled by loud cars or motorcycles, there’s a new measure in New York aimed at bringing you some relief.
The Stop Loud and Excessive Exhaust Pollution (SLEEP) Act specifically bans selling or installing devices that increase the sound of a muffler on a motor vehicle or motorcycle. It would also increase fines for such modifications from $150 to $1,000 if signed by admitted car enthusiast Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has not yet signaled whether he will sign the bill.

Jeep Enthusiasts Roll Into Lake George

Hundreds of Jeep enthusiasts are set to come to the area this weekend as part of the first annual Adirondack Jeep Invasion, set for June 18-20. They’ll be rolling into 1,000 Acres Ranch in Stony Creek, west of Lake George. About 150 are registered as of this point and the show includes trail rides, vendor spaces, an obstacle course and a “downtown invasion,” where enthusiasts will ride to Charles R. Wood Park for a “show and shine” competition.

Board Votes To Do Away With Cambridge Central School Indian

The Cambridge Central School Indian will be no more after July 1st. In a 3 to 2 vote, the school board Thursday rejected a compromise on the issue and decided to do away with the controversial logo. The Post Star reports Board of Education President Neil Gifford and members Caleb Breault and Jessica Roosevelt voted to retire the name and emblem. Board member Dillon Honyoust, who was elected last month on a “keep the Indian” platform, and board member Jessica Ziehm voted against. The resolution directs school Superintendent Douglas Silvernell to form a committee to come up with a new nickname and imagery.

Man Hospitalized After Small Plane Crash In Argyle

A man is being treated for injuries after crashing his plane at Argyle Airport Thursday morning. WNYT reports the pilot, 80-year-old David Klingebiel, was the only person on board at the time. He was flown to Albany Med with head, chest and leg injuries. The FAA is investigating the crash.

Saratoga County Jury Finds Man Guilty Of Murder

A Saratoga County jury rejected Georgios Kakavelos’s story that he walked in just after James Duffy killed Allyzibeth Lamont. WNYT reports a jury found him guilty of all counts, including conspiracy, concealment of a corpse, and the top charge murder in the first-degree. Lamont was just 22 and an employee at the sub shop operated by Kakavelos. The jury found him guilty of murder in the first-degree under the theory that he paid another worker at the shop, James Duffy, to help him kill Lamont and bury her body off Exit 13 of the Northway in Malta.

Saratoga Race Course Ready To Welcome Fans

NYRA announces the Saratoga Race Course will be operating at 100% capacity this summer. The move comes after the state announced that at least one dose of the vaccine had been administered to 70% of adults in the state. The track operated with no fans last summer and officials had previously said, this time around, they’d be reserving most of its seating for vaccinated fans only. All of those in attendance would have been required to show proof of vaccination. But those restrictions have been lifted.

Thunder To Play Games In Front Of Full Crowds

When the puck drops on the Adirondack Thunder season later this year, it will be in front of a full crowd. The Post Star reports
The Thunder, on Wednesday, announced it will be hosting full crowds at Cool Insuring Arena this season after the state lifted most of its remaining COVID-19 restrictions, including those on capacity, a day earlier. The Thunder will host its home opener on Oct. 23.

Man Arrested, Charged For Trying To Bring Gun, Knife Into Great Escape

Police say a man tried to bring a gun and switchblade knife into the Great Escape.Frank Owen is charged in connection with the incident. WTEN reports the Warren County Sheriff’s Office says the weapons were found during the security screening guests go through to get into the park. Owen is now being held at the Warren County Jail.
