PA Couple Charged With Leaving Infant Unattended While Boating On Lake George

Parents from Pennsylvania were arrested Tuesday, accused of leaving their infant child alone on a Lake George beach while they went boating, The Daily Gazette reports Troopers went to Lake Shore Drive for the report of an infant left unattended on the beach after a passerby reported hearing a child crying for an extended period of time and discovered the child alone on the beach about five feet from the shoreline. Troopers identified the child’s parents as Paul D. Thorley, 30, and Mary E. Thorley, 28, both of Mount Pocono, Pa.

Whitehall Considers Dissolving Police Force

The village of Whitehall in Washington County could be doing away with its police department. WNYT reports in the past year, five full-time officers of the small department have taken jobs elsewhere, leaving only nine part-time officers. The Whitehall Village Board is expected to take up the issue at its July 16 meeting.

APA Approves Pesticide For Lake George

The Adirondack Park Agency has decided to approve the use of a controversial pesticide in Lake George. According to WNYT, the agency board voted to approve the use of ProcellaCOR to kill the invasive plant species milfoil in the water.
The Lake George Park Commission has said the herbicide already has been used in hundreds of other lakes without any harmful ecological or human impact.

Lake George Wednesday Markets Kick Off

The Lake George Wednesday Markets kicked off Wednesday featuring more than 40 vendors.
For 10 Wednesdays in a row June 19 to August 21, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the event hosted by the Adirondack Pub & Brewery and High Peaks Distilling offers free parking and admission for the market and the Lake George Arts Project’s Wednesday Night Concerts at 7 p.m. in Shepard Park.

Fort William Henry Museum Marks 70th Anniversary

The Fort William Henry Museum is celebrating its 70th anniversary with new exhibits and upgrades and an ice cream named in honor of the historic site. WNYT reports “Cookies N’ Cannons” ice cream will be served by Stewart’s scoopers during Fort William Henry community day this Saturday. Admission to the museum is free on Saturday to residents of Warren, Washington and Saratoga counties.

Trailways Expanding Adirondacks Service

Trailways has announced that it will be expanding its services with a new route that will connect St. Lawrence County, Franklin County, and the Adirondacks to areas such as Glens Falls, and Saratoga Springs. This will help underserved regions connect to these counties. WTEN reports the service routes will bring public transportation to communities and operate twice daily, allowing for increased travel flexibility.

Man Arrested In Lake George On Sexual Assault On A Child Counts

A multi-state, multi-agency investigation has led to the arrest of a Thurman man accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a child.
43 year old Brian K. Hopkins is charged with felony predatory sexual assault of a child related to incidents on multiple occasions over the course of several years. Hopkins was arrested in Lake George and remanded to Saratoga County Correctional Facility without bail following arraignment in Moreau Town Court.

Water Repairs In Whitehall

The Whitehall Department of Public Works began repairing the water system Monday night, shutting off water access overnight. County officials said the repairs are due to a water main leak on the village’s east side. The water system was shut down for residents from Williams/ South Williams Street to Whitehall Central Schools

BOCES Culinary Instructor Wins Hall of Champions Award

Nick Zwart of Hudson Falls’ Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex Board of Cooperative Educational Services (WSWHE BOCES) was selected as the recipient of the national SkillsUSA Hall of Champions award. WTEN reports Zwart, a culinary instructor and SkillsUSA Office Team Manager was nominated for the award because of his dedication to helping students develop personal, workplace, and technical skills in academics.
