A member of the Warrensburg town board has launched an effort to re-purpose one of Warren County’s historic bridges, which is now closed to traffic and the county government has sought to give away. The Sun Community News repots
Town councilman Rich Larkin has submitted a proposal to Warren County Public Works Department to acquire the Middleton Bridge and put it to use primarily to connect snowmobile trails in the southern and northern areas of the county.

County Board Declares Joan Grishkot Day
The Warren County Board of Supervisors has declared July 1 “Joan Grishkot Day” in Warren County in memory of our first Warren County Public Health Director, who passed away July 8.
July 1, 1966 was the day Joan started work with Warren County, starting a career of more than 50 years in the local public health community, with Warren County and myriad other agencies. There are plans to plant a tree outside the Public Health Office in Joan’s honor in the coming months, so that her memory lives on.
Major Upgrade For Moreau Community Center Kitchen
The Moreau Community Center kitchen, all 230 square feet of it, will get an upgrade thanks to a grant from Lowe’s. $50,000 will be u sed to remodel the space and will allow the center to begin teaching classes on food preparation The money was awarded as part of the home improvement store’s 100 Hometowns initiative, which provided full funding to 100 community projects across 36 states, according to the Post Star.
Warren County’s Broadband Discussion
Warren County was among communities featured in a newly released report by the National Association of looking at national issues in access to good, reliable broadband Internet service.
Warren County Administrator Ryan Moore was among the members of the 40-member committee
Among the recommendations was that broadband be regulated as a utility, verified data collection is imperative and eliminating the “digital divide” will require a host of resources and industries coming together
Developer Receives Variance For Glens Falls Project
In Glens Falls, the city Zoning Board has granted a developer a variance to build a 20-unit apartment complex between Union Street and Goodwin Avenue . The Post Star reports the project would go up on a half-acre parcel directly behind Heritage Apartments. The parcel is currently used as a parking lot. That same developer abandoned plans to build a similar sized complex at the corner of Glen and Bay streets.
Survey On How To Spend Recovery Act Money
Warren County has launched a survey that asks residents how best to spend the $12.4 million in federal stimulus money the county gets under the American Rescue Plan. The Post Star reports the U.S. Department of Treasury has spelled out generally how municipalities can spend the money but local governments choose specific projects and uses for it.
Flood Waters Put A Damper On Business At Howard Johnson Motel
The owner of the Howard Johnson Motel on Canada Street in Lake George says he had five feet of water in some rooms during recent flooding. He tells WNYT 15 to 20 rooms had up to five feet of water in them, and most had people in them as the water was rising. He says it couldn’t come at a worse time as this is their busy season and a key time for them to make back money they lost during the pandemic.
Vaccine Site At Aviation Mall Will Close
Governor Cuomo Tuesday announced that four mass vaccination sites will cease operations as part of the ongoing downscaling that will allow the State to focus on localized vaccination efforts. As part of the downscaling which followed the achievement of milestones that allowed the State to lift COVID-19 restrictions, the sites at Binghamton University at Gannett Drive, Aviation Mall in Queensbury, Stony Brook Southampton, and the Diana Center at SUNY Orange will cease operations following vaccinations on July 26.
Six Flags/Great Escape Closing Tuesdays And Wednesdays
Six Flags/ Great Escape Park is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays until further notice, due to what a press release calls, “the current market staffing conditions.” Management says it plans to extend park hours from Thursday to Monday. No indication if the two day closure will be in place through the rest of the season.
Estate Items Of Josei Beckos Wood To Be Auctioned Off Soon
The contents of the Queensbury home of Josie Beckos Wood, “the late Mrs. Charles R. Wood,” will be sold in an estate sale and auction later this month. According to the Glens Falls Chronicle , the collection consists of rare and desirable items, the volume of which the estate auctioneer says he’s never seen before. The three-day estate sale at Mrs. Wood’s home will run Friday to Sunday, July 23-25. It’s open to the public, subject to capacity limits due to Covid. Sale hours will be Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
