Carm Basile, the CEO of the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA), announced on Wednesday that he will retire at the end of the year. Basile has held the position for the last 15 years. WTEN reports during his time as CEO, he is credited with expanding public transportation services, increasing ridership, strengthening branding, and leading the CDTA through the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Makeover Complete For Countryside Adult Home
Countryside Adult Home, owned and operated by Warren County in Warrensburg, is now revamped after both interior and exterior work resulted in a completely modernized facility. Sun Community News reports nearly $4.2 million was budgeted for the work, which included $1.2 million in ventilation improvements. State grants and American Rescue Plan Act funding covered nearly $2.3 million of the tab.
Stony Creek Town Council Voting Tallies
Voting Tuesday for Stony Creek Town Council. The Warren County elections board indicates that Sandra Farrell garnered 43 percent of the vote, Doreen Ryan 34% and Todd Newton 23% with all precincts reporting Tuesday night.
Winter Realms Won’t Return To Lake George
Winter Realms, an event produced by Ice Castles, is not returning to Lake George for the upcoming winter. WTEN reports Warren County Public Affairs Director Don Lehman said Ice Castles cited warm weather as the reason for not returning. Both Ice Castles and Winter Realms had to close early over the past years due to warm temperatures which made the ice melt.
Lost Hiker Found In Warrensburg
A man who had gotten lost hiking in Warrensburg last week was found walking on Route 9 without a shirt or shoes. WNYT reports dispatchers received a call on June 18 around 11:45 p.m. about a 45-year-old man from Glens Falls who was last seen the previous day on the Pack Forest nature trail in Warrensburg. Forest rangers interviewed the man, who said he had gotten lost, and found his way to the main road early on June 19.
Warren County Seeks To Eradicate Goldfish In Pond Connected To Lake George
Warren County officials have introduced some largemouth bass into one of the ponds in the man-made wetlands at Charles Wood Parkin an effort to control some goldfish that were dumped there from someone’s aquarium and took root. By spring, those fish had grown to 8 to 10 inches and officials did not want them to end up in Lake George which connects to the pond in question. The hope now is the largemouth bass will eat those goldfish and alleviate any potential problems.
Lake George Herbicide Hearing Delayed
A hearing for request to block use of a controversial controversial pesticide in Lake George has been delayed. WNYT reports the Adirondack Park Agency board voted on June 20 to approve the use of ProcellaCor to kill the invasive plant species milfoil in the water. The Lake George Association has filed an injunction in Warren County Supreme Court to prevent the use of ProcellaCor. A hearing on the motion was scheduled for Monday but it has been postponed until Friday, June 28 at 1 p.m.
Lawsuit Filed In Wake Of Lake George Herbicide Decision
A lawsuit has been filed in an effort to stop an herbicide from being added to two bays in Lake George. The Lake George Park Commission approved the move in a 6 yes to 2 abstention vote in May. According to WTEN, The Lake George Association (LGA), Lake George Waterkeeper, Town of Hague, Town of Dresden, and nearby property owners filed the suit against the Lake George Park Commission (LGPC), Adirondack Park Agency (APA), and New York State Department of
Environmental Conservation.
Free Senior/Veteran Transportation Program In Warren County
Warren County’s free Senior/Veteran Transportation Program got off the ground earlier this year with great groups of seniors from around northern and western Warren County transported from their homes to Queensbury for groceries and errands for those who either don’t drive, or can’t drive. The van service is for those 60 and over and veterans of any age, and is operating in the towns of Warrensburg, Bolton, Chester, Johnsburg, Thurman, Stony Creek and Hague.
