Gov. Kathy Hochul has unveiled nearly two dozen historic sites across the state now slated to be added to the State and National Registers of Historic Places, including a long-standing library in Queensbury and century-old church in Lake Clear. The Sun Community News reports among the 19 newest properties to be added to the registries are the Mountainside Free Library in Warren County.

Report: Kids’ Smoking Rate In NY At Record Low
New York State’s youth smoking rate has reached a record low. The NYS Department of Health (DOH) says as of 2020, less than 3% of high school students smoke cigarettes. In 2000, the youth smoking rate was 27.1%. WTEN reports DOH found tobacco use was down in all product categories. This includes a drop in e-cigarette use for the first time.
DEC Wants ‘Packing Peanuts’ Gone
DEC is out with proposed regulations to implement a ban on expanded polystyrene foam containers and loose fill packaging, commonly referred to as ‘packing peanuts,’ that goes into effect Jan. 1, 2022. The ban builds on New York’s environmental leadership in preventing litter and reducing waste through measures such as the ban on plastic carryout bags, the bottle bill, and food scrap recycling and food waste prevention efforts. New York is among the first states to ban polystyrene packaging and fill. DEC is accepting comments on the proposed regulations until Nov. 22, 2021.
Probe Into Deadly Crash In Bolton
A deadly crash in Bolton remains under investigation. WNYT reports authorities were in the area to investigate suspected drag racing. They found many vehicles lining the road with large groups of people walking in the road.
Deputies say 22-year-old Steven Gosselin was driving his motorcycle just after midnight on County route 11 in Bolton when he hit 33-year-old Ghaland Nadeau, who was walking in the road. Nadeau was pronounced dead at the scene.
Warren County Officials Urge Emergency Preparedness
Warren County Emergency Services is asking residents to plan for emergencies during September for National Preparedness Month. Among the steps you should take; Determining where to evacuate should you have to leave your home, including designating a meeting place and a location to seek shelter. Putting together an emergency kit that includes water, non-perishable food, medications and other items, and preparing the area around your home for bad weather. Trim tree branches, maintain home gutters and identify other possible threats to your home during wind or heavy rain.
Queensbury Woman Allegedly Left Toddlers Home Alone
A Queensbury woman has been arrested after police said she left her two toddlers home alone. According to the Post Star, State police responded to the residence of 24 year old Angelina M. Reyes at about 11:18 p.m. on Friday after being contacted to check on the welfare of the children. Police said they believe the children had been left alone since 9:30 p.m. but did not have information about where Reyes went.
Man Arrested In Lake George Campground Incident
State Police in Queensbury arrested 52-year-old Lyndon L. Tatsey of Fort Edward for Criminal Contempt, Criminal Possession of a Stolen Property and Harassment. State Police responded to a domestic dispute at the Whippoorwill Motel and Campsites in the town of Lake George Friday night. Tatsey is accused of pinning the victim down during a dispute and was found to be in violation of a full stay away order of protection. He is due in Lake George Town Court Thursday.
Adirondack Nationals Car Show Returns To Lake George
The annual Adirondack Nationals Car Show returns to Lake George Sept. 9 through Sunday Sept. 12 after a year’s hiatus due to the pandemic. The Sun Community News reports the event annually draws capacity crowds to the village — as many as 50,000 spectators over the weekend. Canada Street will be blocked off from Mountain Drive to Mohican Street from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. both Friday and Saturday evenings to accommodate these vehicular parades, and parking will be either prohibited or limited to one side of the road on most of the village back streets.

Great Escape Has New Idea To Deal With Staffing Shortages
The Great Escape in Queensbury has come up with a way to solve its staffing shortage and help local charities at the same time. WNYT reports the park is encouraging non-profits to send a minimum of five volunteers to work at the park for a day.
In exchange, the non-profit gets at least a $500 donation and tickets to return to the park as a guest. Great Escape has had to close Tuesdays and Wednesdays this summer due to the manpower issue.
