As October arrived with cooler temperatures, more than $373 million in home heating aid was made available for low- and middle-income New Yorkers who need assistance during the upcoming winter season. The Sun Community News reports applications opened Oct. 1 for the Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as HEAP, which is overseen by the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and provides federal funding to assist homeowners and renters with their heating costs during the cold weather months.

Town of Lake George Fall Clean Up is slated to happen between October 18th and November 22nd. Leaves don’t have to be bagged, however, if bagged, a paper biodegradable bag must be used. Leaf piles that contain stones and other debris will NOT be picked up. Brush must be tied in bundles so that one man can pick them up and no longer than eight foot in length and no greater than 5 inches wide. NO pick up of solid refuse such as refrigerators, stoves, etc..
Possible COVID Exposure At Queensbury BINGO Events
Warren County Health Services is advising those who attended a BINGO events at VFW Post 6196 in Queensbury the nights of Tuesday, September 28th and September 21st to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms after an attendee was diagnosed with COVID-19 this afternoon.
An estimated 90-95 people were in attendance each night, and the individual who was diagnosed with COVID-19 was likely infectious while in attendance. This person did not wear a mask.
County Public Health Officials Urge Prompt Care If Breathing Problems Arise
Warren County Health Services has seen a number of recent COVID-19 cases where those who were ill delayed seeking medical care, resulting in hospitalizations and one death as the highly transmissible Delta strain continues to spread. Anyone experiencing breathing problems should contact their physician or go to an urgent care center or hospital promptly.
Heating Your Home A Costly Propsition For Some This Winter
New Yorkers may be paying significantly more money to stay warm this winter compared to last winter. According to WTEN, prices for heating oil, kerosene, and propane are up between 20% to 36% over last year’s prices, according to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The current average price of heating oil statewide is $3 per gallon.
Whitehall Roadway Closed Partially Due To Beaver Dam Break
Part of County Route 21 in Whitehall is closed between Winters Road and Baker Road after localized flooding and will remain so for about a week. Officials say a beaver dam broke and the affected portion of the roadway will need significant repairs.
Committee Working On Septic System Inspection Law
The Warren County Board of Supervisors committee that is working on a proposed local law to require inspection of septic systems when a property is sold or transferred will meet again tomorrow, Tuesday, September 28 at 3 p.m. to discuss the legislation further.
The committee hopes to have an agreement on language for the law so that it will be discussed by the full Board of Supervisors at its workshop meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29.
Ranger Rescue In The Town Of Bolton
A ranger rescue in the Town of Bolton On Sept. 19 at 5:22 p.m., Warren County 911 contacted DEC’s Ray Brook Dispatch to report two hikers lost on Tongue Mountain in the Lake George Wild Forest. The hikers did not have food or water and had hiked down to the shore on Lake George. Ranger Donegan responded by boat from Green Island and brought the pair back to the boat launch. From there, they were given a courtesy ride to the trailhead. Resources were clear at 8:10 p.m.
Strong Summer For Business In Lake George, Say Officials
It was a strong summer business wise for Lake George, say officials. Americade takes place, there are some numbers indicating just how robust business was. In August, for instance, Lake George hotels averaged 83% occupancy. By comparison, hotels on Cape Cod averaged 80% occupancy last month. The average price of a Lake George hotel room is $212 a night.
Warren County COVID Update
Warren County Health Services reported 17 additional COVID-19 cases Wednesday along with 25 recoveries. All of Wednesday’s new cases involved community spread of COVID-19. Four (4) involved individuals who had been on campus in the Queensbury, Lake George and Hadley-Luzerne school districts.
New COVID cases in recent days continue to stem from workplace exposures, household exposures out-of-state travel and youth sports practices.
