The town of Queensbury will hold its annual Holiday Festival at the SUNY Adirondack campus this year. This will be the second year Candy Cane Lane will be held outdoors as a drive-thru-only experience. According to the Post Star, Candy Cane Lane will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3. The choice to change locations this year is in an attempt to allow for more accessibility and exposure.

Ex Postal Carrier Accused Of Taking Items From Mail
A former Washington County postal worker pled guilty to mail theft. 54 year old Colleen McAvoy pled guilty to taking cash, gifts cards, and other valuable items from mailed packages while employed as a letter carrier. The value of the items she stole, say authorities, is just under $5,000. McAvoy faces up to five years in prison when sentenced before a judge on March 16th.
Lake Luzerne Supervisor Absentee Vote Count
It appears that Lake Luzerne Supervisor Gene Merlino has come up about 5 votes short in his write-in bid for reelection after absentee votes were counted this week. The Post Star reports fter the write-in votes were counted on Nov. 4, Merlino trailed board member and challenger Dan Waterhouse 415-430, but there were 54 absentee ballots still to be counted.
Following the counting on Monday, Merlino picked up 31 votes and Waterhouse gained 21.
Non Profit Partner Sought For Veterans’ Assistance Services
Warren and Washington counties are seeking a non-profit organization or human services agency to collaborate with them in expanding and enhancing their peer-to-peer veterans’ assistance program. The Sun Comunity News reports the counties have broadcast a “request for proposals” in seeking an agency or organization to join with them in administering counseling and mental health resources, education, outreach, and employment assistance to military veterans.
Significant Spike In COVID Cases In Warren County
Warren County Health Services reported 40 additional COVID-19 cases on Monday, along with 42 recoveries. Health Services is monitoring 491 active COVID cases as of Monday, 472 of them involving mild illness. Warren County Health Services continues to see a significant spike in COVID-19 transmission, with the majority of its new cases arising from household/family exposures, workplace exposures and indoor events/gatherings, including Halloween gatherings.
Meetings This Week On Septic System Inspections
If you have thoughts on Warren County’s new proposed law that would require septic system inspections if a property on or near certain waterways is sold or transferred, there are two public hearings this week (11/17 and 11/19) to make your thoughts known. Wednesday’s meeting is at 7 p.m. at Lake George Town Hall Friday’s at Warren County Municipal Center at 10 a.m.
The public is welcome at both meetings, and they will be livestreamed on YouTube.
Office For The Aging Seeks Volunteer Meal Drivers
Warren/Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging is in immediate need of volunteer drivers for Home Delivered Meals program in Lake George (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) and Brant Lake (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), from approximately 10:30AM-1PM. OFA reimburses our drivers the current mileage rate ($0.56). Starting in January, they hoping to go back to delivering our meals five days a week, Monday-Friday.
ARP Money Meeting Tuesday In Warren County
The first of four public meetings for discussion of how Warren County’s share of federal COVID-19 stimulus money will be used will be held Tuesday afternoon, starting at 3 p.m. The Warren County Board of Supervisors has established an “American Rescue Plan Act” (ARPA) Advisory Committee of supervisors, county officials and community members that will review options for use of $12.4 million in federal funding Warren County will receive. The advisory committee will in turn make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
Hyde Collection Awarded $100,000 For New Project
The Charles R. Wood Foundation has awarded The Hyde Collection a $100,000 grant toward its new Reimagine Project. The Post Star reports the multi-year project will include substantial improvements to the museum’s entrance and outdoor campus, campus-wide visitor-centric improvements and the translation of the Hoopes Gallery into a permanent orientation gallery, and over the next three years, Hyde Collection officials will seek to secure nearly $500,000 toward these efforts.
Budget Public Hearing Set For Glens Falls
Glens Falls Common Council will hold a public hearing later this month to discuss the proposed 2022 general fund budget of $20.8 million, which represents an 8% increase from last year’s $19.1 million budget. The Post Star reports council set the hearing for its next scheduled meeting on Nov. 23 starting at 7:20 p.m.as property taxes would rise 2% in the proposed budget.
