SNAP Benefits Update For Warren County Residents

Warren County SNAP households that have been impacted by the April 18-19 snowstorm power outages now have until May 15th, 2022, to report the loss of food.
The LDSS-2291 REQUEST FOR REPLACEMENT OF FOOD PURCHASED WITH SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP) BENEFITS form must be used to request replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits. It can be accessed at: https://otda.ny.gov/programs/applications/2291.pdf.

Gold Star Mothers In Lake George

U.S. military personnel who died as a result of their service were honored April 29 by their family members — and Capital Region residents — in a memorial ceremony held by the New York State Department of American Gold Star Mothers. According to the Sun Community News, taking place in the Lake George Holiday Inn, the ceremony was the featured opening event of the organization’s annual convention.

Burn Ban Reminder

Don’t forget, New York’s burn ban is in effect until May 14. In addition, officials say, know that burning brush is illegal any time of year in communities with over 20,000 people, which in Warren County includes Queensbury, while the City of Glens Falls has a city ordinance that bans open burning.

9-1-1 Issues Fixed In Washington County

The Washington County Department of Public Safety reports that the issue with landline phones has been fixed. WRGB reports Verizon advised the Public Safety team the issue was identified within their switching components and has been corrected. Residents are reminded if you are ever in need of emergency services in Washington County and cannot reach their team by dialing 9-1-1 directly.

2021 Big Year For Sales Tax Revenue In Warren County

Warren County received about $69 million in 2021 sales tax revenue from the state, all-time record earnings — $10.2 million more than 2020. According to the Sun Community News, the windfall represents a 17.3% increase over 2020’s $58.8 million and 16.9% more than 2019, a pre-pandemic year with substantial tourism.

Warren County Looking For Public Works Staff

Warren County Department of Public Works staff is out and about preparing for the season’s projects, filling potholes and cleaning up from recent storms. Jobs are open within the county for a light equipment operator, laborer and construction specialist. The positions are full time, part of the state retirement system, and include county fringe benefits such as health insurance.

Brooklyn Man Busted On Northway In Queensbury With Hockey Bags Filled With Pot

State Police arrested Harlon K. Feferbaum, 39, of Brooklyn for Criminal Possession of Cannabis. On April 22, 2022, at approximately 1:00 p.m., State Police conducted a traffic stop on I87 southbound at Exit 18 in the town of Queensbury for a vehicle and traffic violation. Troopers located several large hockey style bags containing over 200 pounds of marijuana.
Feferbaum was taken to SP Queensbury for processing.

Washington County Grand Jury Indicts Man For Child Sex Abuse

A Washington County grand jury has indicted a man on child sex abuse counts. 23-year-old Oliver Lovera was arrested in February after the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said he had sexual contact with two girls under the age of 11 over the course of several years. Lovera was arraigned in Washington County Court.

New Poll On Hochul Job Performance

Where do New Yorkers stand when it comes to Governor Hochul? The Siena College Research Institute says currently 44% of New Yorkers say they have a favorable view of Kathy Hochul. 34% say they have an unfavorable view. 36% of New Yorkers think Hochul is doing an excellent or good job as Governor, compared to only 57% who say she’s doing a fair or poor job. It is the worst favorability rating she’s had since she’s been Governor.
