Lake George Drowning Victim ID’ed
We now know the name of the man who drowned Sunday near the Rogers Rock State Campground in the Town of Hague. Authorities say 61 year old Raymond Jones of Orlando, Florida had some kind of medical incident and was unaccounted for in the water. Jones was recovered a short distance from the vessel and was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday, an autopsy was performed at Glens Falls Hospital and the cause of death was determined as asphyxia due to drowning.
Men Busted In Seasonal Home Thefts
Two Washington County men were arrested in Granville on Sunday for allegedly robbing three seasonal homes. WNYT reports 31 year old Daniel Valastro and an 18-year-old man were charged with three counts of Burglary. Valastro was sent to the Washington County Correctional Facility awaiting arraignment. He is on parole with three prior felony convictions. The unnamed man was arraigned and released. He is due in Whitehall Town Court on July 25.
Man Drowns Near Rogers Rock, Says Report
A 61-year-old man is dead after an apparent drowning in Lake George, near Rogers Rock State Campground. WRGB reports at approximately 1:31 P.M. Sunday, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible drowning.
First responders learned a man, age 61, was unaccounted for in the water after suffering a medical condition while swimming near his boat. A woman who was accompanying the man on the boat had entered the water in an attempt to rescue him but was unsuccessful
Fire At Lodge In Lake George Sunday
Crews were busy with a fire in Warren County on Sunday. WNYT reports firefighters from a number of departments were called for a fire at Canoe Island Lodge, which is a resort in Lake George. According to the sheriff’s office, the fire is under control now and there were no injuries.
Boil Water Advisory For Fort Ann
A boil water advisory is in effect for the village of Fort Ann. WNYT reports crews found the source of a water main leak and fixed it and the water, which had been turned off briefly, is back on. The boil water advisory is in effect until further notice.
Six Flags Great Escape Hiring For Fright Fest
Six Flags Great Escape and Hurricane Harbor is preparing for its highly anticipated fall event, Fright Fest, by adding more workers with two new job fairs this month. Six Flags is currently hiring entertainers, food service, and ride operators.
Applicants 16 and older, looking to be a zombie, ghost, ghoul or perform as an actor, are invited to attend these “Scare Fairs” to join the Entertainment team.
Man Finds Ring While Diving In Lake George
A man says he found a ring while free diving in Lake George. It appears to be a wedding band and was resting on a tiny ledge of an underwater cliff in the Hague section of the lake. You can see a Facebook post he put up about it on the Warren County Facebook page. He’s looking for the proper owner to provide type of metal, inscription details and the approximate location where it was lost.
Many Warren County Government Employees Getting Raises
More than a third of Warren County government employees will be receiving a raise of $2.75 per hour after county officials recently reached an agreement with the Civil Service Employees Association Unit 9000 on the wage increase, which will take effect Aug. 1. According to the Sun Community News, on July 15, the county Board of Supervisors ratified across-the-board raises for the county’s 237 CSEA union workers. The CSEA members ratified the agreement July 11 soon after the negotiations between the CSEA representatives and county officials concluded.
Help For Some Warrensburg Residents Fixing Their Homes
Low and middle income homeowners who would like financial help in repairing or rehabilitating their Warrensburg homes are urged to fill out a pre-application within the next few weeks for such assistance. The Sun Community News reports the town of Warrensburg is applying for a state Community Development Block grant of $400,000. Funded by the state Office of Community Renewal, the grant is to enable homeowners to make upgrades to their single-family residences.
