After a 26-year career with the Hudson Falls Police Department, police Chief Scott Gillis will retire on Aug. 29. The Post Star reports Gillis submitted his retirement letter to the Village Board during the board’s last meeting on Aug. 8. He took over as chief in the fall of 2018 after working as a detective in the department for the decade prior.

Argyle Man Faces Domestic Incident Charges
An Argyle man has been arrested for allegedly strangling a woman. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Robert Risacher, 31, was arrested after an investigation into the domestic incident. WTEN reports Risacher is accused of strangling a former intimate partner and holding her down. Police said the woman was physically injured during the incident.
Early Voting In Warren County
The Warren County Board of Elections is announcing early voting hours and locations for the Aug. 23 primary election.
The county’s primary election will only include a Democratic contest for New York’s 21st Congressional District. WRGB reports early voting begins Saturday, and voters will be able to cast ballots at the Warren County Human Services Building and Glens Falls City Hall.
LGA Seeks Boaters To Check For Invasive Species
The Lake George Association has a call out to boaters. This month, the stewardship organization is looking for lakegoers interested in helping to inspect over 100 locations for invasive species activity. WTEN reports the LGA’s first-ever Aquatic Invasive Species Monitoring Weekend is set for Friday-Sunday, Aug. 19-21. Anyone with a motorboat, kayak or canoe is asked to join in surveying for any signs of non-native invasive plants, including Eurasian watermilfoil and hydrilla.
Johnsburg Woman Arrested For DWI In Lake George
A Johnsburg woman was arrested recently for allegedly driving while intoxicated with juveniles in the vehicle. The Post Star reports state police responded to the Exxon station on state Route 9 in Lake George for a report of a larceny in progress. During the investigation, police identified 19 year old Nicole L. Brown, 19, as the driver of the vehicle transporting the larceny suspects. Roadside sobriety tests indicated that Brown was intoxicated, police said.
Glens Falls Arts District Street Festival
The Glens Falls Public Safety Board voted Wednesday night to put the Glens Falls arts district on full display on Aug. 18 with a street festival. According to the Post Star, the festival will close off Park Street (from Glen Street to Elm Street) and will feature art vendors, live bluegrass music and area food. The festival will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Bay Road Bridge Work Resumes
Warren County DPW received state permits Friday to move forward with the bridge replacement project on Bay Road , and work resumed Monday, August 8. Warren County DPW and Peckham Materials crews are preparing the site for installation of the new bridge, which is being fabricated. The replacement is expected to be on site in the coming weeks.
Until then, Bay Road remains closed and the detour using Route 149, Moon Hill and Walkuo roads remains in place.
Upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Warren County Department of Public Works’ next FREE household hazardous waste collection event is set for Saturday, August 13 at Queensbury Highway Department. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Warren County residents will be able to safely dispose of materials such as antifreeze, pesticides, latex and oil-based paints, household cleaners and fluorescent light bulbs at no cost.
The collection staff is not able to accept munitions, automotive oil, batteries, asbestos, pharmaceuticals, infectious waste or tires.
Calling Hours Wednesday For 8 Year Old Killed In Argyle UTV Crash
Calling hours take place Wednesday for an 8-year-old Argyle boy who died on Saturday in an accident involving a UTV. Police say Cyrus Steven Reid was operating the vehicle and no one else was injured. Calling hours will take place from 4 p.m. until 7 pm. on Wednesday at the Argyle Presbyterian Church, located at 48 Main St. in Argyle.
Glens Falls Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest
Glens Falls police say a woman already wanted on a bench warrant for drug charges was arrested over the weekend for allegedly possessing cocaine. According to WNYT, 33 year old Ashley Vetrano was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over for a traffic stop during which she was found to have 17 grams of cocaine. She will have to appear in Glens Falls City Court and Queensbury Town Court to answer to those charges.
