State Trooper Suspended In Colleague’s Drowning Death

A state trooper was suspended for letting a colleague who was not trained in underwater diving use his gear. That trooper, James Monda, drowned in the Great Sacandaga Lake one year ago. According to the Post Star, the 45 year old Monda went into the water and did not resurface. Another trooper who was assigned with him located him in the bottom of the lake in about 9 feet of water and pulled him to the surface.

Ribbon Cutting For Lake George Wastewater Treatment Plant

The long-awaited completion of Lake George Village’s new $24.6 million wastewater treatment plant will be celebrated in a ribbon-cutting event set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24 — and the public is invited to attend. The Sun Community News reports the sewer plant is located just south of the Prospect Mountain/Veterans Memorial Highway at 1 Treatment Road in the town of Lake George.

Open Water Swim Held In Lake George

The waters of Lake George hosted more than 350 swimmers from 31 states gathered at Hague Beach for the annual Open Water Swim. Sun Community News reports there were three races set for the day, a 2.5K, a 5K, and a 10K, an inner perimeter of kayakers and an outer perimeter of motorboats manned by volunteers were on standby for safety. Started in 2011 by a group of open-water swim enthusiasts, the Open Water Swim typically involved participants performing the freestyle stroke.

Granville Man Charged In 2021 Home Break Ins

A Granville man is under arrest in connection with burglaries from March 2021. The Post Star reports 23 year old John J. Younger allegedly unlawfully entered two seasonal residences on East Green Pond Way in the town of Hebron on March 24, 2021. While inside, Younger damaged property and stole alcohol from inside the homes, say police.

Queensbury Man Charged After Brief Standoff

A Queensbury man was arrested after police said he discharged a firearm inside a residence during a brief standoff.
According to the Post Star, 39 year old Kevin P. Conlon was charged with felony counts of reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful imprisonment, following an incident that unfolded as a domestic at 26 Colonial Court in Queensbury Wednesday night. Conlon was arraigned in Warren County Court and sent to Warren County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail and a $5,000 bond.

Jobs At Warren County DPW

Warren County Department of Public Works has some new job openings to help with construction projects and in the Buildings & Grounds division, and most of these jobs qualified for the recent $2.75/hour pay increases granted to CSEA union members. DPW is currently looking for a construction specialist and light equipment operator, while Buildings & Grounds has an opening for a cleaner.

Washington County Worker Faces Grand Larceny Counts

A Washington County employee was charged with grand larceny and government fraud charges, accused of using county equipment for personal use. WRGB reports 40-year-old Allan Burnham who is an employee of the county sewer district, is accused of using “issued equipment to obtain benefits over a course of time that resulted in a financial gain to himself.”

Hudson Falls Woman Sentenced On Drug Counts

A Hudson Falls woman arrested earlier this year on drug charges now knows how much time she’ll spend behind bars. A judge sentenced Jessica Nichols to seven years in state prison and three years post release supervision. WNYT reports she pleaded guilty to criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Talking Arts And Economy In Glens Falls

On Thursday night, residents of the city of Glens Falls and the surrounding region are invited to a panel and discussion based around much of what’s new and happening in the city, including the up-and-coming arts district and the city’s roster of annual and weekly street festivals. WTEN reports the Glens Falls Arts District Street Festival and Creative Economy Panel Discussion is set for 5 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Park Theater.
