A Lake George man is accused of vandalizing a church in Warren County. Police have charged 27-year-old Michael Briggs. They say he scrawled graffiti at St. Mary’s Church on Warren Street in August, reports WNYT. Briggs allegedly drew on a statue and on a tent and a door. Police say he’s the one who wrote “Allah” in one place and in another “Allah = God in Arabic language.”

Stranded Boat In Washington County Finally Towed
The boat that was stranded on the Hudson River in Washington County since early September is finally out of there. WNYT reports the boat was stuck on a rock ledge when an out-of-state pilot unfamiliar with the area made a wrong turn.
It took almost a month for the operator, his insurance company, and a boat towing company to work out the logistics of freeing the boat. They finally towed it out Tuesday afternoon.
Surplus Property Auction In Warren County
More than two dozen properties will be available for purchase when Warren County Real Property Tax Services Office holds its annual live public auction of tax-foreclosed property on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Warren County Courthouse.
Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the auction starts at 10:00 a.m. As of this week, 27 parcels were on the list for auction.
Barn Party To Benefit Thurman Highway Superintendent
A local couple has been holding a barn party in Thurman each fall for 13 years — to raise money for a family facing hardship, a severe illness or a calamity. The Sun Community News reportsJamiee and Roy Ross’ annual Barn Party is to be held from 1 p.m. to about 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 — and this year the proceeds are to help offset the expenses that Thurman Highway Superintendent Pat Wood incurred following the devastating fire at his home, durin which he suffered burns over about 55 percent of his body.
Man Under Arrest In Connection With Hudson Falls Apartment Building Fire
Seven families are without homes Tuesday after a fire caused major damage to a Hudson Falls apartment building. Now a man is facing criminal charges related to that fire. WNYT reports the fire broke out at 11 Maple Street, just before 8 p.m. Monday. Police say they have arrested 47-year-old Peter Lemery. He’s charged with reckless endangerment. Officers believe his behavior contributed to the cause of the fire.
Lake George Road Salt Seminar
The Lake George Association is set to hold a gathering to talk about road salt – a potentially detrimental hazard to the health of any water body, no matter the scale. This year, the association’s annual summit will feature a leading authority on clean water, to guide a conversation that conservation groups say must be continuing and ever-changing. WTEN reports registration is open for the LGA’s seventh annual Adirondack Champlain Regional Salt Summit, set for Thursday, Oct. 13.
Women’s Rally In Glens Falls Saturday
A rally in support of the National Women’s Wave movement will take place in downtown Glens Falls. According to the Post Star, the rally is set for Saturday, Oct. 8, and will take place at Glens Falls City Park on Maple Street, from noon until 2 p.m. as a way to encourage voting. Voter registration and information for the Nov. 8 election will be available.
Hogan Awarded Rotary Club Citizen Of The Year
For 2022, Elizabeth Hogan was chosen as the Glens Falls Rotary Club Citizen of the Year because of her work with the Crandall Park Beautification Committee. Officials say Hogan was instrumental in adding several attractions to Crandall Park such as disc golf course and a splash pad.
COVID Spike In Warren County
A recent surge in COVID-19 infections in Warren County and a spike in hospitalizations locally due to the virus have prompted county Health Services Director Ginelle Jones to issue a warning to take appropriate health-related precautions.
As of last week, the seven-day average of new infections in Warren County increased 63 percent over two weeks earlier, while hospitalizations due to COVID-19 more than doubled during the same time period.
Amazon Distribution Center Planned For Granville
Amazon is coming to Granville. WNYT reports an Amazon distribution center will soon take over the old Manchester Wood site on Route 24. Renovations will begin in December and they hope to open in the middle of next year and employ between 150 and 200 people.
