A vacant building on Route 9 along the Queensbury outlet store corridor that once housed Subway and Smokey Joe’s Tavern could soon be demolished to make way for a new establishment. The Post Star reports Faden Enterprises plans to demolish the existing building to construct an 8,355-square-foot building and two smaller buildings, each 1,740 square feet and containing a total of 24 outdoor self-storage units. The larger building would be separated into three parts — a 2,000-square-foot drive-thru restaurant, a 2,500-square-foot restaurant and 3,855 square feet of retail space.

Makeover For SUNY Adirondack Dining Hall
This year, students attending class at SUNY Adirondack will have something new in store if they come for a meal at the campus dining hall. WTEN reports SUNY Adirondack’s dining hall was completely renovated ahead of the 2022-23 school year. The new hall includes bar-height seating in addition to traditional tables and chairs. Group study spaces dot the hall, as do new study pods, designed for added privacy.
Gillibrand Discusses LIHEAP Funding Increase
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand discussed the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in New York Tuesday.
In September, Gillibrand called for additional emergency supplemental funding for LIHEAP to offset the rise in energy costs due, in part, to OPEC’s recent decision to cut daily production. She says in total, LIHEAP is getting an additional one billion dollars, with $60 million of that money coming to New York.
Grant Funding To Protect And Preserve Local Forests
Area lawmakers and conservationists are applauding new Department of Conservation grant funding aimed at increasing forested land conservation. Sun Community News reports DEC announced nearly $1.35 million in awards to four land trusts to help protect and preserve local forests. The awards were announced at the Wiawaka Center for Women in Lake George with the Land Trust Alliance and other partners working together to protect forests and combat climate change.
Drought Update
DEC has issued an update on drought conditions across the state. The State’s Drought Management Task Force updated the drought status to “Normal” from “Drought Watch” for multiple regions including most of upstate New York because of recent rainfall and higher levels of ground and surface water. Despite the encouraging hydrological conditions, all New Yorkers are urged to continue reducing unnecessary water waste, fixing leaks, and choosing efficient water fixtures. Amy’s Adventure Race for the Lake
The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) hosted its 6th annual Amy’s Adventure Race for the Lake at Amy’s Park Preserve in North Bolton Oct. 1. This year’s race included 53 competitors aged 7 through 75, and 16 volunteers and NextGen Committee members who helped organize and run the event. The Sun Community News reports the event aims demonstrate the melding of recreational opportunities with land and lake conservation. This year’s race proceeds grossed more than $4,000 and will support the LGLC’s Wiawaka Uplands project.
Heggen, Opponent Square Off On NXIVM
The lawyer challenging incumbent Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen is slamming what he says was “negligence” in a lack of local prosecution of the sex cult, NXIVM. WTEN reports, according to Heggen, Michael Phillips comments on NXIVM show a lack of knowledge when it comes to the scope of the job, and the jurisdictions involved in such a case.
Whitehall Man Arrested In Seasonal Homes Break Ins
A Whitehall man is accused of breaking in to seasonal homes, and stealing things. WNYT reports Joseph Morehouse Jr. is charged with burglary, petit larceny, and criminal mischief. The Washington County sheriff stated that he and another man broke into two seasonal homes on East Green Pond Way.
Walk To End Alzheimer’s In Queensbury
The Alzheimer’s Association’s Northeastern N.Y. chapter is hosting its 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Queensbury on Saturday, Oct. 15 at SUNY Adirondack. The Sun Community News reports Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. The Queensbury walk is supported by local sponsors Business for Good Foundation and Herzog Law Firm. This year’s fundraising goal is $184,300.
Man Injured In Glens Falls Industrial Accident
Police are investigating after an industrial accident in Glens Falls. The incident happened on Warren Street. According to WTEN, Police said a man’s arm became stuck in a machine. He suffered serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
