Whitehall Man Charged With Sex Assault

A Whitehall man is accused of sexually assaulting three kids – all under 13 years old. 66 year old James Ross was arrested after police say they first got a report of one assault, then found two other victims. WNYT reports Ross was sent to the Washington County Jail. More charges are expected.

Five Cuffed In Kingsbury Gun Heists

Police slapped handcuffs on five individuals throughout Washington and Warren counties over the weekend, all of them connected to the burglary and theft of 31 handguns from Calamity Jane’s Firearms and Fine Shoes in Kingsbury early Friday morning. WNYT reports those arrested include Martin Taft, 47, of Salem, Jonathan Combs, 42, of Wells, Vermont,
Billie Jo Parker, 47, of Hudson Falls, Sean Parmeter, 55, of Hudson Falls, and Penny Phillips, 47, of Salem.

Lake George Association Seeks Volunteers

The Lake George Association is seeking volunteers to monitor their favorite areas of the lake for excessive algae growth and harmful algal blooms (HABs) in particular through a new citizen science program called AlgaeWatch.
Interested volunteers can sign up for the program at lakegeorgeassociation.org/algaewatch and also watch a new LGA educational video on the dangers posed by HABs and what can be done to prevent them.
AlgaeWatch volunteers will monitor shoreline or near-shore areas around their home or business, or areas they otherwise frequent, document the growth of various types of algae, and report back to the LGA on their findings.

Employment Events In Warren County

Warren County Department of Workforce Development is promoting two hiring events coming up later this week, at Medline in Glens Falls on Wednesday and Queensbury Union Free School District on Wednesday and Thursday.
In addition, BOCES Employment Training for Adults (ETA) is enrolling through November 18th for its Machine Tool Technology class,and financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
This 500-hour program begins in late November and will provide the skills necessary for someone to become a machinist at one of the many local businesses currently hiring. Interested applicants may qualify for sponsorship through the Warren County Career Center.

‘Baskets For Ben’ Event Friday

One of the most prominent charity fundraisers in the area, “Baskets for Ben,” is to be held Friday, Oct. 28 with a mission to enhance the lives of children living in Warren, Essex, Washington and Saratoga counties. Sun Community News reports all are invited to attend. The event, the 11th annual fundraiser sponsored by the Ben Osborn Memorial Foundation, is to be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the V.F.W. Post 6196 at 12 Luzerne Road in Queensbury.

2022 Special Olympics State Fall Games In Glens Falls

Special Olympics New York and the Glens Falls community today announced that the 2022 State Fall Games will be held in and around Glens Falls Oct. 21-22, 2022. The Games will bring 1,300 athletes and coaches to the Capital Region – nearly three times as many participants as last year’s event. The Games will kick off with a signature Special Olympics New York Opening Ceremony in City Park Friday night, Oct. 21, in City Park. Competition will take place all day Saturday, Oct. 22, in seven sports: bocce, cross-country running, cycling, golf, equestrian, soccer, and softball.

Man Linked To Queensbury Business Break In Through DNA

A man has been arrested after being linked to a burglary at a Queensbury business. According to WNYT, 33 year old Anthony Putnam of Saratoga Springs was linked to the crime, using DNA.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office arrested him on one felony count of burglary in the third degree and one count of felony criminal mischief in the third degree. Putnam was arraigned in Warren County Court and released on his own recognizance.

Granville Man Killed In Crash

A Granville man was killed in a one-car crash. WNYT reports 79 year old James Briggs of Granville was traveling east on Route 22 in Fort Ann, when his vehicle left the eastbound lane, crossing the westbound lane, and flipping before hitting a tree.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says Briggs was trapped inside of his car and had to be removed.

Do This Before You Ramp Up For Heating Season

DEC advised homeowners and landlords to put safety first when preparing for home heating needs this fall and winter. DEC reminded property owners to avoid connecting occupied buildings to wells producing natural gas because doing so can be dangerous and potentially deadly. In addition, DEC encouraged property owners that use oil for heat to inspect fuel storage tanks for potential leaks or spills before receiving shipments of fuel oil for the upcoming heating season.
