Swan Won’t Run For Warren County Treasurer Again

On Tuesday, Mike Swan announced he is retiring from his longtime position as treasurer of Warren County. The Post Star reports Swan said Jan. 1, 2024, would be his last day in office. After three terms as the treasurer, he has decided not to run for re-election.

Whitehall Man Charged With Shooting 4 Year Old Son With BB Gun

A Whitehall man was arrested by Whitehall Police after allegedly shooting his 4-year-old son in the stomach with a rifle BB gun. According to the Post Star, police went to 20 Potter St. for a report of a child who had been shot in the stomach by a BB gun. 31 year old Eric L. Prosser is charged with first-degree criminal contempt and second-degree assault, both felonies, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Proposed Lake George Central School District Transportation Facility Project

November 9th, there will be a community presentation of a proposed Lake George Central School District Transportation Facility Project. There is no tax increase expected withthe facility which has estimated costs attached coming in at $13.5 million. The new school bus garage being proposed in Lake George will be located behind the elementary school near the athletic fields. It will include 12 covered bus storage spaces and two wash and maintenance bays. A public vote is set for Dec. 6.

HEAP Help Open As Of November 1

New Yorkers needing help paying their heating bills can begin applying for home heating assistance Tuesday, Nov. 1.
The Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as HEAP, can provide up to $976 this winter to help low- and middle-income households and senior citizens keep their homes warm and help defray high energy costs.

Man Dies From Injuries In Crash After Taking Off From Checkpoint

A stop at a sobriety check point last night ended with a deadly crash. WNYT reports it happened n the town of Moreau, where
Vincent Mancuso of Fort Edward stopped at the check point, spoke to an officer and then sped off. Troopers later found the car after it crashed on Ferry Blvd. in the village of Glens Falls. Mancuso was taken to Glens Falls Hospital where he later died.

Burglary Suspect Denied Bail

One of five suspects connected to the burglary of a Kingsbury gun shop appeared before a judge on Thursday. WNYT reports 47 year old Martin Taft of Salem told the judge he wanted to go home to his kids, but the judge wouldn’t allow it given Taft’s lengthy criminal record.

Public Input On Warrensburg Comprehensive Plan

The Town of Warrensburg is seeking public feedback as it reviews and updates its Comprehensive Plan, which will guide development for the next 20 years. The first public workshop for the Comprehensive Plan Update was held Thursday as the town has embarked on a year-long process that will result in a new blueprint for the town’s future.

Fourth Person Dies From COVID In Warren County In Three Weeks

An additional Warren County resident has died of COVID 19 — the fourth to die of the persistent coronavirus in less than three weeks. County officials announced that the individual was in their 80s and lived at home before becoming ill and being hospitalized. The person, who had been vaccinated, subsequently died Oct. 20 in a hospital. The individual is the 136th Warren County resident to die of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Warrensburg Sewer Rates Going Up

The quarterly charges for wastewater treatment billed to residences and businesses in the Warrensburg Sewer District have been raised by $25. Sun Community News reports the increase was enacted Oct. 12 in a unanimous vote by the Warrensburg Town board during their monthly meeting. Town Supervisor Kevin Geraghty said the $25 increase was necessary because of the rising expenses of maintenance at the sewer treatment plant and the pending cost of dredging the lagoon.

Schools Capital Project Approved In Warrensburg

Residents of Warrensburg Central School District on Tuesday approved a $13.5 million capital project. The Post Star reports the vote was 154 in favor to 33 against the project, which would include renovations to all district buildings. Most of the work would occur at the junior-senior high school. It includes renovating the science classrooms, adding dedicated classrooms for career and technical education and creating a collaboration workshop space.
